Ferrari could potentially be the biggest talking point of the 2025 Formula 1 season, although a season rarely goes by when the Scuderia aren’t involved in one of the sport’s most prominent storylines.
If Ferrari are having a strong season, then people quickly point to their record as F1’s most successful team.
However, if things are going badly, it doesn’t take long for the finger to suddenly be pointed at the team principal, in this case, Frederic Vasseur.
However, the mood is very positive at Maranello right now despite narrowly missing out on the Constructors’ Championship.
Aside from one misstep in development when Ferrari delivered an update in Spain that hindered their progress, they’ve been on a strong trajectory for months.
Not only that, but Ferrari fans can look forward to Charles Leclerc being joined by Lewis Hamilton next season.
It means Carlos Sainz has had to move on to Williams, but as Eddie Jordan points out on the Formula For Success Podcast, Hamilton won’t go on forever.
The seven-time world champion will be 40 by the time he makes his debut in Ferrari’s iconic red car, and there’s one driver he’s already pinpointed that could end up replacing him.
Eddie Jordan can see Carlos Sainz replacing Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari one day
Talking about Sainz’s next move, Coulthard said: “It feels like maybe a stopgap scenario for Carlos.
“I don’t want to take anything away from Williams because I think the rebuilding and restructuring has been very impressive.
“But I just wonder if they will deliver him a car like the Ferrari in the time it might take for Lewis to finally hang up his boots.”

Jordan asked: “Why are you suggesting that you might find Carlos going back there?”
Coulthard replied: “I think that I could see Carlos going back to Ferrari.”

Jordan then explained: “So can I. They absolutely adore him and I think he left under such great terms.
“And to be second on the podium and to be there, and Ferrari needed to really perform to give a fight to McLaren, up to the last lap.
“If anything happened to Lando, Ferrari were the champions. You know, there are certain parts that you could look back and say, Carlos was dealt a rough hand.
“However, we both talked about Leclerc and we know how quick he is. But for sure, in my opinion, I think Carlos had a match of them.”
Carlos Sainz has a point to prove at Williams after being dropped by Ferrari
Sainz has admitted he understands why Ferrari replaced him with Hamilton even if it was a bitter pill to swallow.
The decision came before the latest campaign started and it’s hard to argue that Hamilton outperformed the Spaniard over the past 24 race weekends.
Jordan has even suggested Ferrari should rip up Hamilton’s contract, although that’s never going to happen.

Sainz’s initial laps at Williams hardly compare to his pace at Ferrari, although he wouldn’t have been pushing the FW46 to its limits and he was only marginally slower than Leclerc during a full day of running in the post-season test.
The 30-year-old has a brilliant relationship with the team and would be one of the strongest available should Ferrari and Hamilton part ways in the next few years.
He may have an emerging Oliver Bearman to compete with as well as several other drivers in the midfield who would dream of racing for the famous Tifosi.
