Martin Brundle has heard one exciting thing about Lewis Hamilton’s first Ferrari F1 car

Lewis Hamilton will be looking to get his Ferrari career off to a bright start in 2025.

The seven-time champion started work in Maranello this week as he drove a Ferrari F1 car for the first time at the Fiorano Circuit on Wednesday.

Hamilton shared the track with his new teammate Charles Leclerc, with thousands of the Tifosi turning up to watch the historic moment. Ferrari fans had an overwhelmingly positive verdict on Hamilton’s test despite noticing one mistake with a lock-up of the front tyres.

This will be a huge confidence boost for the Brit given his struggles with Mercedes over the last few seasons. He comes to Ferrari off the back of his lowest finish in a championship with seventh in 2024.

Despite winning two races and grabbing five podiums, Hamilton’s 2024 season was plagued with inconsistency, particularly in qualifying. The 40-year-old could not find performance over one lap, getting eliminated from Q1 on four occasions.

But Hamilton will be encouraged by his new team’s performance last year. And Martin Brundle has revealed more exciting news for the Brit at Ferrari.

Martin Brundle says ‘the feeling’ is Ferrari might have improved their car more than McLaren

Coming into 2025, McLaren are the favourites after winning the Constructors’ Championship by 14 points over the Maranello outfit. The Woking-based team had the fastest package for much of the season after Red Bull regressed in performance.

Brundle sees Lando Norris as the favourite after his impressive performances in 2024. The Brit missed out on the title to Max Verstappen by 63 points, but he has proved he can fight for a world championship.

However, McLaren will face competition from Ferrari, Red Bull and even Mercedes. Speaking on Sky Sports, Brundle shared that ‘the feeling’ is that Ferrari have improved more over the winter, giving a huge boost to Hamilton and his title hopes.

“What I do know is that the regulations are very mature and so, we’re not expecting one team to suddenly jump ahead because they’re reaching the peak, in their last season with these regulations, how the cars can perform,” he said.

“But Ferrari are very confident. At the moment, the feeling is Ferrari might have improved their car a little bit more than, say McLaren or others.

“We know McLaren are confident in their data as well, of what their new car looks like. It should be one of the greatest seasons in Formula 1 history. It should be so close and whoever wins it will win a great championship”.

Can Lewis Hamilton win his eighth title with Ferrari?

Racing for F1’s most successful team will come with an immense amount of pressure. Ferrari fans are already demanding a championship from Hamilton after seeing him in action at Fiorano.

The Brit proved in moments last season that he still can be competitive, but these were rare occurrences as he struggled to find the right balance.

Brundle thinks Hamilton has ‘lost the edge’ and his best is behind him. But he also stressed that ’96/97% of him is good enough provided he has a winning car.

Ferrari are confident in their package for 2025 and if they have found the edge over their rivals, Hamilton could be in a great position to win a record eighth title.

But the 40-year-old will face a huge challenge going up against Leclerc. The Monagsque driver knows the Ferrari setup inside and out and will be looking to grab his maiden title with a car that can battle at the front.
