Intra-team rivalries between McLaren and Alpine

McLaren was one of the surprise teams of the 2024 season when Lando Norris took his first victory at the Miami Grand Prix, then went on to challenge for the title with Max Verstappen.

As McLaren’s car got faster, both Norris and Oscar Piastri began to trip over each other in the battle for supremacy. A series of errors from Norris ultimately cost him in the title battle, while McLaren eventually had to employ team orders to prevent them from missing out on points.

Things at Alpine also got frosty after Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon collided at Monaco, jeopardising an early points finish after such a tough start to the season.

Ocon would go on to announce he would be leaving the team at the end of the season in the wake of the incident, with the Frenchman allegedly having a disagreement with senior staff at Alpine.

Spotlight on Christian and Geri Horner after Red Bull scandal

The beginning of the 2024 season was marred by a scandal that hit Red Bull, in which team principal Christian Horner was embroiled in a misconduct investigation.

The Red Bull boss had his integrity questioned while his position within the team came under threat, pending the outcome of an internal investigation following a claim from a female employee.

Scenes of Horner walking down the Bahrain paddock with wife Geri Horner remind the viewer of the time, with the team boss saying “I never thought I’d have a challenge like this in my career.”

Expect the whole saga to be covered by the series and the impact it had on Red Bull’s early 2024 season.

Toto Wolff opens up on Lewis Hamilton exit to Ferrari

The story of Lewis Hamilton leaving Mercedes to join Ferrari is undoubtedly one of the biggest in F1 history.

After Hamilton dropped the bombshell on Toto Wolff just before the start of the 2024 by activating a performance clause in his existing contract, it created a tense atmosphere.

Wolff clearly goes into the split in some detail and how he felt about Hamilton leaving after 12 years of success, with it set to be one of the main themes of this years season.

Claire Williams and Guenther Steiner return

Fan favourites Guenther Steiner and new addition Claire Williams make their return to the screen, despite some questions over whether the former would still be involved.

Steiner was sacked from Haas at the end of the 2023 season, but has found a way to stay in F1 through being an ambassador of the Miami GP and various pundit roles across the season.

His sweary nature is part of what made Drive to Survive an iconic series, with his interactions with drivers and team owner Gene Haas often turned into memes. Expect more of the same with him still onboard.

Flavio Briatore lays down marker for Jack Doohan

One of the final storylines at the end of the 2024 season was the early debut of Jack Doohan at Alpine, who appears to have been lectured by Flavio Briatore in the trailer.

Briatore can be seen speaking to Doohan and telling him “I control you every millimetre” suggesting that he was expecting results out of the box.

Doohan’s disappointing debut at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix coupled with Alpine signing Franco Colapinto has led to questions over whether he will even see out the 2025 season. There is set to be a lot of pressure on him at the first race in Melbourne.
