Jack Doohan not the only F1 star at risk as 399-race team now ‘growing impatient’ with their driver

Jack Doohan could become the second Formula 1 driver to lose his seat in 2025. Alpine have reportedly decided to drop him after the Miami Grand Prix.

Flavio Briatore said Franco Colapinto would remain Alpine’s reserve for the next race at Imola. But there are growing indications that the Argentine will ascend to a full-time race seat.

Rather than axing him entirely, Alpine will retain Doohan in their set-up. But he looks unlikely to race for the team again.

There are similarities here with Liam Lawson’s Red Bull demotion. Lawson lost his spot alongside Max Verstappen just two races into the season.

He was allowed to continue racing at sister team Racing Bulls. But Lawson’s chances of returning to Red Bull are ‘very slim’.

Yuki Tsunoda could be the next F1 driver in trouble after Jack Doohan Alpine exit

Yuki Tsunoda was the beneficiary when Lawson lost the Red Bull seat. After being overlooked in December, he was finally promoted to the top team at the start of his fifth F1 season.

However, Tsunoda has scored just six points in his first four weekends as a Red Bull driver. In the same period, Max Verstappen has logged 63.

After a scoreless debut in Japan, he finished ninth in Bahrain. He then crashed out of the Saudi Arabian GP after a first-lap tangle with Pierre Gasly.

Tsunoda emulated Lawson with his SQ1 exit at the Miami GP, though he managed to recover to sixth with the aid of penalties. He started and finished 10th in the main race.

He’s been a clear upgrade on his immediate predecessor and the latter-day Sergio Perez. But Red Bull don’t appear dissatisfied.

In fact, Bild report that Christian Horner and co. are ‘growing impatient’ with Tsunoda, which means he ‘could lose his cockpit’.

The report states that Tsunoda could be an option for Aston Martin if Red Bull let him go. Fernando Alonso’s contract is a barrier to a race seat for 2026, but he could potentially join as a reserve.

Tsunoda’s long-term relationship with Honda could help him. The Japanese manufacturer will supply Aston’s engines from next year.

Clearly, his priority is to stay at Red Bull. But Horner says Tsunoda is overdriving in Q3, which in turn is hindering his prospects in the races.

Isack Hadjar is the standout candidate to replace Tsunoda if the team decide to make a change at the end of the year. Hadjar has only scored five points but he’s shown mightily impressive raw speed.
