Guenther Steiner tells Ferrari what they need to say to Lewis Hamilton after radio tension at the Miami Grand Prix

Ferrari caused a bit of a stir at the Miami Grand Prix after tension between Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc.

They spent the majority of their race fighting the Williams cars, which just about sums up their start to the 2025 Formula 1 campaign. It’s exactly why they are fourth in the constructors’ championship.

Neither Ferrari finished inside the top six at the Miami Grand Prix for the first time this season (they did in China too before disqualification), marking their slowest performance of the campaign.

To make matters worse, both Hamilton and Leclerc squabbled during the race over who was faster, with the latter eventually pulling ahead after multiple swaps took place.

Just six races into his career with the Scuderia, Ted Kravitz thinks Hamilton had made a Ferrari mistake by criticising the team.

Any partnership should expect teething issues in its infancy, but Ferrari won’t bring ‘big updates’ to their 2025 F1 car until they have fixed Hamilton’s tyre issues, which have plagued him so far.

Guenther Steiner says Ferrari should tell Lewis Hamilton to pass Charles Leclerc after Miami drama

Hamilton was left speechless by Ferrari’s issues and continued to struggle with maintaining his rubber in Miami. He just cannot seem to master the tyres at his new team.

He did have the faster mediums during his last stint, with Leclerc on the hards. It’s part of the reason why he campaigned for a swap in the first place.

After that failed, he was nearly overtaken by the man who he replaced at the Italian outfit over the winter – Carlos Sainz in the Williams.

Guenther Steiner has now advised Ferrari to tell the seven-time champion to overtake his teammate in the future if he thinks that he can do it, rather than lobby for a swap.

“Having Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton fighting a Williams, they are not proud of that,” he said. “That is not what they want to do anymore in life. They want to win races and go on the podium.

“They are fighting and then it starts. Let the other one by, one b—— on the radio, ‘I’m faster than him.’ Yeah, sure you’re faster in his DRS. Sometimes you just have to say, ‘Let him try to get past.’ Because maybe he is faster, because [of] the different tyres on. But, it didn’t work.”

Why Ferrari’s 2025 Formula 1 season is far from over yet

While the beginning of the season has been underwhelming for a team that came within 14 points of ending a 16-year title drought in 2024, there’s still 75% of the season to go.

Starting with the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, where there should be further upgrades to the SF25, they should be able to unlock more pace.

The only cause for concern will be whether their rivals are able to bring more. If they do, it may be time to write the season off.

The 2026 F1 regulations are only inching closer, and if they want to make the most of the last guaranteed season they have with Hamilton, they may want to go all-in on it.

Otherwise, the last few years will be seen as a period where they were so close to achieving what they wanted, without managing to do it.
