Oscar Piastri is now over 20 points ahead of Lando Norris after the two title rivals clashed during the Canadian Grand Prix.
Norris was chasing down Piastri in the final laps of the race for fourth place when the pair made contact on the start/finish straight, causing the Briton to retire on the spot and scored zero points.
George Russell felt Norris was at fault for the collision because he went for a gap that didn’t exist, while F1 fans also praised Norris for owning up to the mistake.
Norris has now drawn a line under the whole saga and is looking forward to moving on, but it is a significant dent in his title aspirations.
While much of the focus was on the Briton, former racing driver and F1 pundit Davide Valsecchi believes Piastri must also shoulder some of the blame and compared his driving to Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen when speaking on the F1 Nation podcast.

Davide Valsecchi thinks Oscar Piastri drives more like Max Verstappen than ‘classy’ Lewis Hamilton
Verstappen is known for being ruthless on track, having recently landed himself in hot water at the end of the Spanish GP, when he collided with George Russell.
Valsecchi thinks Piastri is now driving more like the Dutchman, having examined how he positioned his car in the moments that led to the collision with Norris in Montreal.
“I think it looks like Verstappen. I think that Hamilton did this type of move in a more classy way. While Piastri, it seems that he didn’t do it normally with consciousness, but I can see some anger in how he plays the car,” said Valsecchi.
“So to me, he’s more similar to Verstappen. This attitude in fighting and almost going to put the other one in a difficult position. It’s less classy than Hamilton but more aggressive like Verstappen.”
Nico Rosberg now thinks Oscar Piastri is the title favourite
Piastri is now close to surpassing the 200 points mark in the title race, which is putting him in good shape nearly halfway through the season.
Norris was the title favourite heading into the season after his strong finish to 2024, but having committed a few unforced errors this year, it has led to a loss of confidence in some.
Nico Rosberg thinks the Canadian GP provided a ‘watershed’ moment in the title race, with him now backing Piastri for the overall victory.
Piastri is attempting to become the first Australian to win the world championship since Alan Jones in 1980, while Norris would be following in the footsteps of Lewis Hamilton, the last British driver to win the title in 2020.
