There has been tons of speculation surrounding Max Verstappen and his future plans in racing in the 2025 Formula 1 season.
Rumours have been flying around the paddock that the four-time champion may be considering his future at Red Bull, as the team regresses in performance in 2025. Verstappen has lost faith in the technical department since Adrian Newey joined Aston Martin.
It has prompted speculation that the Dutchman could leave the team before his contract expires in 2028, with there being a performance clause within the deal. It has even been suggested that the 27-year-old could take a sabbatical in 2026, but Verstappen has rubbished those rumours.
Verstappen ‘definitely’ will not race for Aston Martin next season, with Mercedes now seemingly the favourites to sign the Dutchman if he becomes available. But his future may also lie outside of F1.
It is no secret that Verstappen is a fan of all forms of motorsport, as he is regularly seen doing sim racing and running numerous tests in sports cars. His latest outing has suggested an announcement on his future plans could come soon.

‘Many in the scene’ believe it’s a matter of time before Max Verstappen takes part in a GT3 race
Recently, the defending F1 champion has been seen having numerous outings in GT3 cars. Verstappen drove on the Nurburgring Nordschleife last month in a Ferrari 296 GT3 under the pseudonym ‘Franz Hermann’.
The 27-year-old wanted his test to be a secret from the media, but his racing helmet and suit gave away his true identity. It is believed that Verstappen ran the test to obtain the licence needed to compete in the 24-Hour race at the Nurburgring.
The 2025 event will take place this weekend, but ‘Verstappen isn’t on the starting list’, as per a report from F1-Insider. However, his latest tests have sent a ‘clear statement’ about his future.
On Monday, the Dutchman had another outing in a GT3 car, this time an Aston Martin and under his real name, at Spa-Francorchamps. It explains why he was not present at the F1 Movie premiere in New York alongside his fellow F1 colleagues.
Following his test at Spa, ‘many in the scene’ believe that Verstappen will take part in a GT3 race, with it being ‘only a matter of time’ before he makes such an announcement.

What have people been saying about Max Verstappen’s GT3 tests?
Unsurprisingly, the Red Bull driver has shown excellent pace in GT3 cars, setting a new lap record around the Nurburgring. Timo Glock lauded Verstappen’s incredible feat around the Nordschleife as he was immediately on the pace within two laps.
Father Jos Verstappen found Max’s onboard footage ‘not normal’ because of how quickly he found his groove around the circuit. He had only driven the track virtually prior to his test in the Ferrari 296 GT3.
While Verstappen’s commitments are currently in F1 with Red Bull, many believe that the Dutchman is bound to take part in a sports car race in the near future.
Tom Kristensen suggested Verstappen could race the 24 Hours of Le Mans; an event the 27-year-old has said he would like the take part in at some point in his career. Many F1 stars have triumphed in the iconic race, with Robert Kubica being the latest with Ferrari in 2025.
