Adrian Newey already ‘pleased’ with key decision Aston Martin have already made for 2026

The news that everybody has been expecting for some time looks set to be confirmed very soon.

Ever since Adrian Newey announced he would be moving on from Red Bull after helping the Milton Keynes-based outfit dominate Formula 1 in two separate eras, fans have been waiting to see who he would be joining next.

Ferrari were linked with Newey for some time as Frederic Vasseur attempts to build the strongest team possible around Charles Leclerc and new signing Lewis Hamilton.

Newey held talks with everyone on the grid according to Eddie Jordan but he looks to have made his mind up.

Aston Martin look set to hire the 65-year-old as they continue to put together an extremely strong team of backroom staff for the 2025 season and beyond.

A report from Marca suggests that Newey is already very pleased with a key decision team principal Mike Krack and executive chairman Lawrence Stroll made long before he agreed to join the team.

Newey will already be looking forward to working with Enrico Cardile who will be joining the team in the near future from Ferrari as well.

Alongside Dan Fallows and Andy Cowell, Aston Martin have recruited exceptionally from other teams in the paddock.

The focus is on 2026 and Aston Martin already have some key changes coming including a new power unit after signing an exclusive deal with Honda.

The location of the Silverstone factory near to where he already lives is also a nice bonus for Newey.

However, they go on to say that the introduction of Honda engines to the Aston Martin team has ‘pleased’ Newey.

Honda have been Red Bull’s partners for some time and Newey already has a good understanding with the power unit suppliers.

What the paddock has said about Red Bull’s future power units

Newey may be a designer but he knows better than anyone how important it is for every piece of the car to work in harmony to produce the best results.

Cardile’s previous comments on an F1 car’s suspension may worry Newey but he’ll quickly figure out a solution to any problem he comes up against.

Honda have worked brilliantly with Red Bull over the past few years and played their part in Max Verstappen’s three world championships.

Red Bull have begun work on their power units for 2026 in a partnership with Ford.

The paddock has had its say on the Red Bull Powertrains project, although Martin Brundle was impressed when he visited Red Bull’s facility.

Whether that played a part in Newey’s decision to walk away from the team isn’t known, but knowing he’s going to be reunited with Honda at Aston Martin won’t have hurt their chances when it came to signing him.
