Alex Brundle spotted a ‘trait’ in Lewis Hamilton’s data that ‘upsets’ his Ferrari F1 car, ‘the same thing at Mercedes…’

Ferrari will be spending the break between the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix and the upcoming Sprint weekend in Miami to analyse Lewis Hamilton’s first five race weekends with the team.

Lewis Hamilton, and every driver racing for a new team in 2025, were at a slight disadvantage compared to their rivals this year.

Normally, teams do three days of testing in Bahrain, before staying at the circuit for the opening Grand Prix of the season.

However, this F1 season saw the teams jet off to Australia, China and Japan before returning the Bahraini desert, and by that point, any hidden advantage Ferrari hoped they had over their rivals had yet to reveal itself.

Hamilton starred in the Sprint Race in China, taking pole position and leading from start to finish, but that’s where the list of impressive performances from the 40-year-old this season ends.

Ferrari have a theory about why Hamilton is struggling to adapt to the SF-25 compared to his new teammate Charles Leclerc.

Pundit and presenter Alex Brundle was been studying the data and come up with why he thinks the seven-time world champion is so far off the pace this year.

Alex Brundle spots worrying ‘trait’ in Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari data

Brundle was a guest on the F1 Nation Podcast after the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

He was asked if Hamilton can see a way out of his current troubles and explained: “He’s talked about moving the car toward him and he’s talked about moving himself towards the car.

“I look at the data from Lewis every weekend and the trait is the same.

“So, he goes into the high speed corners he hits a little bit more brake pressure than Leclerc, and you can draw a line directly up the wheel speed graph to the steering trace and the brake aligned perfectly with a tiny little bit of movement.

“So, he just upsets the Ferrari like everywhere. Leclerc is just Mr. Measured on the brakes.

“I saw the data with Lewis having a bit of a problem with the same thing at Mercedes. Can he coach himself out of a lifetime’s worth of driving technique to move towards a car?

“We’ll find out, but you look at Carlos Sainz at Williams now. Great weekend for Sainz, qualified in the top six, got points and has completely engaged with their way of doing.

“Lewis [is] still behind the game at Ferrari so you wonder if it’s going to be possible.”

Sam Bird says Hamilton has homework to do ahead of the race, to try and understand what’s currently going wrong.

Hamilton ended a run of 168 races finishing within 30 seconds of his teammate in Saudi Arabia, highlighting the deficit between himself and his teammate right now.

Ferrari can’t afford for that to continue for much longer, otherwise they’ll be starting to question whether their 2025 season is already over.
