Aston Martin F1 chief amazed by Adrian Newey’s instant dedication

CEO and Team Principal Andy Cowell has commented on Adrian Newey’s entrance into the team, revealing that he has “quickly immersed himself” with their engineers.

Newey, widely regarded as one of the greatest car designers Formula 1 has ever seen, has joined the ranks of the Silverstone team for the 2025 season starting at the beginning of March. The designer, coming off a long career at Red Bull Racing, has quickly immersed himself within the Lawrence Stroll-led team with a focus that mostly covers the 2026 regulation changes.

He officially started his role as Managing Technical Partner on 1 March following his split from the Milton Keynes team where he spent almost two decades. The 68-year-old joins substantial investment from Stroll, which includes a new wind tunnel and other state of the art facilities. Aston Martin clearly have high expectations going into the next era of F1.

“There’s been huge interest in Adrian’s arrival but he’s not one for great ceremony,” Cowell said in an official release from the team. “He walked into his office at the AMR Technology Campus, put his briefcase down, and was in a concept meeting almost straight away, discussing an area of the car.

“He’s embedded himself immediately. He’s met all our exec team and quickly immersed himself with our engineers, attentively listening to what people are saying about the work they’ve done.

“Ultimately, he’s an engineer helping engineer our race cars. He’s just rolled his sleeves up and got straight into the job. He’s asking questions, he’s offering opinions and he’s bringing a fresh perspective. We’re delighted to have him.”

Following the confirmation of him joining, Stroll was excited to have someone of such experience with the same level of “hunger and ambition.”

“This is huge news. Adrian is the best in the world at what he does – he is at the top of his game – and I am incredibly proud that he is joining the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team. It’s the biggest story since the Aston Martin name returned to the sport and another demonstration of our ambition to build a Formula One team capable of fighting for world championships.

“As soon as Adrian became available, we knew we had to make it happen. Our initial conversations confirmed that there was a shared desire to collaborate in a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

“Adrian is a racer and one of the most competitive people I have ever met. When he saw what we have built at Silverstone – our incredible AMR Technology Campus, the talented group of people we have assembled and the latest wind tunnel in the sport – he quickly understood what we are trying to achieve. We mean business – and so does he.

“Adrian shares our hunger and ambition, he believes in this project, and he will help us write the next chapter in Aston Martin Aramco’s Formula One story.”
