Carlos Sainz has revealed the ‘only thing’ he’s asked Williams to copy from his time at Ferrari

Carlos Sainz takes on a big challenge in 2025 when he races for Williams, marking it the fifth different team he has raced with since he joined the grid a decade ago.

Williams is a markedly different challenge compared to his time at Ferrari, with Sainz admitting that he will need to adjust to life competing in the midfield.

Sainz has already had a taste of what it will be like competing for Williams this year, having completed an installation lap at Silverstone circuit in the FW47.

Given that Williams is attempting to recapture its glory years, the Spaniard will want to take a lot of his learnings from being at Ferrari into the Grove-based outfit. Sainz has said that there is one thing he has already asked Williams to copy from his time at Ferrari when speaking to Soy Motor.

Carlos Sainz told Williams to copy Ferrari simulator

Simulators in F1 are just as important as wind tunnels, as they can be the first line of feedback for any driver for when a new part gets fitted to their cars.

They are also used overnight during race weekends to fine tune setup and come up with strategy options, with them often credited for turning around nightmare Friday practice days for teams.

Sainz said he has told Williams to have a similar framework to Ferrari’s simulator when asked if there was one thing he wanted to be copied from the team.

“I have already done several laps in the simulator this winter. That is the first thing I tried to do because it is one of the best weapons that Formula 1 teams have to develop the car, and if the simulator is not at 100% then it is the first thing you need to give feedback and work on,” said Sainz.

“The only that I have asked from moment one is that the simulator is used in the most coherent way possible and that there is good work between the simulator drivers, simulator engineers, track engineers, and track driver. If you put those four pieces together in the best possible way and work in the most efficient way possible, then the simulator is very useful.”

James Vowles aiming for 2025 podiums with Williams

It’s fair to say that Williams’ chances of finishing on the podium in 2025 are likely to be slim, however, James Vowles isn’t ruling it out.

Vowles has said that he believes Williams has the ‘ingredients’ to score podiums with Sainz this year, given their car is going to be an evolution of what they had in 2024.

Sainz has said that he has been ‘impressed’ by what he seen at Williams so far this year, especially given they dropped further down the Constructors’ Championship order.

Williams will likely exceed the spending limit from 2024, but will be able to stay within the ‘minor’ threshold which would lead to a fine.
