Charles Leclerc scored Ferrari their first podium of the 2025 Formula 1 season at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
The Monagasque driver finished P3 after lining up fourth on the grid. A good battle with George Russell gave Leclerc the final spot on the podium as he fended off a late charge from Lando Norris.
The Ferrari driver was over eight seconds behind the winner Oscar Piastri and over five seconds behind the runner-up Max Verstappen. Leclerc and the Maranello outfit will welcome the result, but will again be frustrated with the lack of pace they showed.
Ferrari have been arguably 2025’s biggest disappointment thus far. Besides Lewis Hamilton winning the Sprint in China, the team have struggled to get the SF-25 in the right window, with both drivers being disqualified from the Grand Prix in Shanghai.

The seven-time champion has been finding life at Ferrari difficult as he struggles to get accustomed to the car. After his woes continued in Jeddah, Leclerc explained why Hamilton was struggling as he claimed the SF-25 has been lacking grip all season.
But amid the frustrations, the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix was a positive step for Ferrari with Leclerc finishing on the podium. The result has seen him break a record set by Jackie Stewart.

Charles Leclerc beat Jackie Stewart’s podium tally in F1 at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix
Winning his three championships in 1969, 1971 and 1973, Stewart is one of the all-time F1 greats. Racing in what was definitely the sport’s most dangerous period, the Scotsman produced some stunning drives in his eight-year-long career.
Making 99 Grand Prix starts, Stewart won 27 races and grabbed 43 podiums. The 85-year-old was sat inside the top 20 for all-time F1 podiums – until the Saudi Arabian GP.
Pos | Driver | Podiums |
1 | Lewis Hamilton | 202 |
2 | Michael Schumacher | 155 |
3 | Sebastian Vettel | 122 |
4 | Max Verstappen | 115 |
5 | Alain Prost | 106 |
6 | Fernando Alonso | 106 |
7 | Kimi Raikkonen | 103 |
8 | Ayrton Senna | 80 |
9 | Rubens Barrichello | 68 |
10 | Valtteri Bottas | 67 |
Leclerc went into the race level with Stewart on 43 podiums. After finishing third, the 27-year-old has leapfrogged the Scotsman and into 20th for all-time podiums, just one behind former Ferrari driver Carlos Reutemann.
The Monagasque driver used his racecraft to good effect as he got the edge over Russell to snatch P3. Hamilton was seriously impressed by Leclerc’s driving style – something he cannot yet replicate at Ferrari as he finished down in seventh.
Charles Leclerc also matched Fernando Alonso’s podium tally with Ferrari in Jeddah
Along with beating Stewart’s podium tally, Leclerc’s 44th time in the top three saw him equal Fernando Alonso and his podium for Ferrari.
Racing for the Maraenllo outfit between 2010 and 2014, the Spaniard grabbed 11 wins and 44 podiums, but could never secure the title. He narrowly finished second behind Sebastian Vettel – another former Ferrari driver – in 2010 and 2012.
Driver | Podiums | Win | 2nd | 3rd |
---|---|---|---|---|
Michael Schumacher | 116 | 72 | 32 | 12 |
Rubens Barrichello | 55 | 9 | 24 | 22 |
Sebastian Vettel | 55 | 14 | 21 | 20 |
Kimi Raikkonen | 52 | 10 | 13 | 29 |
Fernando Alonso | 44 | 11 | 18 | 15 |
Charles Leclerc | 44 | 8 | 15 | 21 |
Felipe Massa | 36 | 11 | 12 | 13 |
Niki Lauda | 32 | 15 | 12 | 5 |
Carlos Sainz | 25 | 4 | 6 | 15 |
Gerhard Berger | 24 | 5 | 8 | 11 |
Leclerc’s podium in Jeddah puts him joint fifth with Alonso for all-time Ferrari podiums. He still has a long way to go to catch Michael Schumacher’s record of 116.
After five races in 2025, Alonso is still yet to score with Aston Martin. He was not classified in the championship until the Japanese GP, having retired from the opening two races.
