Damon Hill suspects Adrian Newey has ‘found something’ after what he heard in his first Aston Martin interview

Adrian Newey is starting to get down to the serious work at Aston Martin ahead of Formula 1’s monumental regulation changes for 2026.

In fact, the 2026 F1 regulations will be the single biggest set of changes seen for decades, as the cars become lighter and hopefully nimbler.

Aston Martin made a statement move last year by signing a legendary Formula 1 designer after he announced his departure from Red Bull.

Newey, who has been responsible for many championship-winning machines, is an excellent coup for them as they look to make another stride towards the front.

After starting work, Newey has identified one vital area for Aston Martin, and is aware that their aero department must grow if they want to enjoy success.

On the campus, Newey has already made changes at Aston Martin and has set about bringing their internal operation up to standard. He might be about to work some miracles.

Damon Hill suspects Adrian Newey has ‘found something’ after Aston Martin interview

Aston Martin’s car has been trending in the wrong direction for a while now, and is mainly why they are as low as seventh in the constructors’ championship.

With Newey’s efforts entirely focused on next year, they will be expecting better results while they conduct damage limitation this season.

They have a very experienced two-time champion in Fernando Alonso at the helm, and he should be a dream to work with in car development.

Lance Stroll has delivered all 14 of their points this year too, so he’s in a strong vein of form and performing as they would hope.

After listening to Newey in an interview, Damon Hill believes that the Brit may have discovered something in the new regulations to exploit already.

“Hmmm. He’s found something,” he said in an Instagram story.

Why Aston Martin’s 2026 F1 title run should be taken seriously

Judging by how Red Bull have performed since Newey left last year, he was a big cog in their machine and part of the reason why they were successful.

In this case, Red Bull’s loss is Aston Martin’s gain. Time and time again, Newey has demonstrated the capability to nail new regulations.

He did it in 2010 and 2022 on separate occasions, which led to two periods of complete and utter dominance from one driver.

Their advantage could be locked in for a while if they burst out of the blocks fast, but there are other variables standing in their way, such as how Honda’s new engine will run.
