F1 driver admits he was ‘totally wiped out’ at the Monaco Grand Prix due to the ‘relentless’ 2025 schedule

The 2025 Formula 1 season will complete its second triple header of the year at Barcelona this weekend. The Spanish GP is only the ninth race of the 24-Grand Prix schedule.

F1 had the first triple in Asia with Japan, Bahrain and Jeddah coming in consecutive weekends in April. The following month saw the beginning of the European season, with Imola, Monaco and Barcelona coming back-to-back-to-back.

With 24 races, plus six Sprint weekends, the F1 schedule is demanding on all the drivers on the grid. It is a huge learning curve for the six rookies in 2025.

Kimi Antonelli is top of the newcomers for Mercedes, although he has faced difficulty in the last two rounds. The Italian suffered his first retirement at Imola before Antonelli crashed in qualifying in Monaco and limped home 18th.

Liam Lawson scored his first points of the season for Racing Bulls and his career-best finish at the Monaco Grand Prix with P8. Franco Colapinto and Gabriel Bortoleto have yet to score, while Oliver Bearman has six points on the board for Haas.

Lawson’s teammate Isack Hadjar also produced his best career finish in Monaco with an impressive P6. He was helped by the Kiwi driver holding up the midfield, allowing him to pull away and secure eight points for Racing Bulls.

Isack Hadjar was ‘totally wiped out’ in Monaco due to the ‘relentless’ 2025 schedule

Monaco was a challenging weekend for Hadjar as he suffered multiple crashes during practice on Friday, clipping the armco barriers and receiving several punctures.

Hadjar admitted he ‘lost his confidence’ due to the incidents. His recovery to qualify and finish in sixth shows just how much potential the Frenchman has in F1.

The 20-year-old has achieved his dream by reaching the pinnacle of motorsport with the Red Bull setup. However, he has admitted he is not too pleased with the travelling involved in the sport – it is already having an effect on the rookie.

Speaking with Motorsport.com, Hadjar said that he was ‘totally wiped out’ and feeling ‘sick’ in Monaco. The ‘relentless’ schedule is beginning to take its toll, but his performance shows he can put that behind him and deliver when required.

“This is exactly what I dreamed of doing. The only difference is that dreams don’t include the less exciting parts – like the endless travel,” he said.

“When I was younger, my dad used to say: enjoy the days when you’re bored. I’d think, ‘What are you talking about? I want to race, play football, hang out with friends.’ But now I get it – I miss those quiet days at home. The schedule is relentless. Last week I got sick; I was totally wiped out.”

How have key F1 figures reacted to Isack Hadjar’s Monaco Grand Prix performance?

The Frenchman’s result in Monaco sees him move into the top 10 of the drivers’ championship. With 15 points, he is ahead of teammate Lawson and is even outperforming former teammate and Red Bull driver Yuki Tsunoda.

Hadjar lived up to his Ayrton Senna tribute helmet in Monaco. The three-time world champion is the most successful driver around the iconic circuit; the Racing Bulls driver’s display was worthy of wearing the Brazilian’s colours.

Damon Hill was seriously impressed by Hadjar, labelling him ‘amazing’ during the Monaco weekend. The 1996 champion says he has ‘surprised everyone’, with there being question marks hanging over him from his time in F2.

Hadjar’s hero Lewis Hamilton congratulated him by putting up his thumbs on the cooldown lap. The Frenchman is getting the recognition he deserves as he continues to impress in 2025.
