Two Formula 1 drivers have already lost their seat during the 2025 season. Liam Lawson and Jack Doohan have been the victims of a historically ruthless start to the year.
Lawson did at least have a soft landing, returning to the Racing Bulls team after two disastrous races at Red Bull. Doohan, meanwhile, is back in a reserve role at Alpine after Flavio Briatore decided to promote Franco Colapinto.
Lawson is at risk of being dropped altogether if he continues to be outshone by rookie teammate Isack Hadjar. Equally, his replacement Yuki Tsunoda still needs to convince Red Bull to keep him on.
DRIVER | TEAM | JOINED |
George Russell | Mercedes | 2022 |
Kimi Antonelli | Mercedes | 2025 |
Yuki Tsunoda | Red Bull | 2025 |
Franco Colapinto | Alpine | 2025 |
Liam Lawson | Racing Bulls | 2025 |
After last year’s reshuffle, most of the drivers have the relative security of multi-year contracts. George Russell and Kimi Antonelli are exceptions at Mercedes, but renewals should be a formality for both with Max Verstappen ‘100%’ committed to Red Bull for 2026.
There has been some confusion over Franco Colapinto’s contract, with Briatore insisting he has longer than the five races set out in Alpine’s press release. But it’s clear that next year’s seat alongside Pierre Gasly is up for grabs.
These F1 fans want Lance Stroll out after Charles Leclerc incident at Monaco Grand Prix
Lance Stroll is under contract until 2026 at Aston Martin, with his father’s position as team owner squashing any speculation over his future. But F1 fans aren’t happy with the situation.
They believe that Stroll’s driving at the Monaco Grand Prix was evidence that he should be shown the door. The Canadian picked up a one-place grid penalty for an incident with Charles Leclerc.
In his defence, a team radio replay shows that Aston Martin were late to warn him about the approaching Ferrari. He kept out of Kimi Antonelli’s way into the Loews hairpin but was collected by Leclerc after pulling back onto the racing line.
Stroll was unable to take any further part in the session due to damage, while Leclerc crawled back to the pits with a broken front wing.

“Stroll doesn’t even deserve to be in F2,” an angry fan declared on Instagram.
“F1 is not Stroll’s sport,” another wrote.
“Delete Stroll from F1 – money doesn’t buy talent,” Aston were told.
“Do wish Stroll’s seat would be given to someone with the talent to deserve it,” a fellow viewer added.
Other comments included ‘how is Stroll still in the sport’ and ‘Why is Stroll still driving in F1?’.
Is Adrian Newey already changing Lance Stroll at Aston Martin?
It’s worth stressing that Stroll has scored all 14 of Aston Martin’s points this season. Two-time world champion Fernando Alonso is yet to get off the mark.
Alonso leads Stroll 5-1 in the races that both drivers have finished and has bemoaned supposed bad luck this season. But he crashed out in Australia when his teammate kept it on the track to pick up eight points.
Stroll is enthused by the chance to work with Adrian Newey, who’s making his first appearance on the pit wall in Monaco. The partnership could feasibly change the course of his career if Newey delivers a car that can win consistently.
But the legendary designer is unlikely to be impressed by his first up-close glimpse of the 26-year-old. A report last year claimed Newey doesn’t see Stroll as ‘good enough’.
