It is no secret that Liam Lawson could potentially be on the brink of losing his seat at Red Bull after a disappointing start to the 2025 season.
The Red Bull driver suffered a second pit lane start in a row after a disappointing qualifying session, in which he set the slowest time of all and was nearly a second adrift of Max Verstappen.
Things didn’t get much better in the race for the New Zealander when he finished the race in P15, although this was promoted to P13 after the disqualification of the two Ferraris.
Following a tough weekend for Lawson, fans reacted to his performance in unison on the social media website X (formerly Twitter) with a suggestion for Red Bull in Japan.

F1 fans want to see Liam Lawson replaced by Yuki Tsunoda for Japanese GP
Fans appeared to lose patience with Lawson following another tough weekend for the 21-year-old, who is finding life at Red Bull a baptism of fire, and are suggesting Red Bull should put Yuki Tsunoda in their car.
One fan simply wrote: “Put Yuki in that car” while another felt that the Japanese driver had earned a chance after a strong start to 2025: “He [Tsunoda] deserves that chance.”
Others also concurred with this: “I’ve seen enough, replace Lawson with Tsunoda,” wrote one fan, while another said: “He [Tsunoda] honestly seems really competitive at RB.”
One fan thinks Red Bull should wait until after Japan to make a decision: “If he doesn’t do well next race,Tsunoda should replace him immediately.”
Another fan pointed out how Red Bull could please home fans in Japan if they decided to swap their drivers: “I think Lawson should be conveniently ‘ill’ for Suzuka so Red Bull reserve Yuki Tsunoda can try out the car and VCARB reserve Ayumu Iwasa gets to drive his home GP.”
Could Red Bull replace Liam Lawson by the Japanese Grand Prix?
Lawson has suffered the worst start to a Red Bull career in the history of the team and is failing to achieve his objective, which is to prop up Verstappen in the championship.
Bernie Collins questioned Red Bull and why they did not give Lawson more experience in an older car to establish a foundation for him to work from, as he appears to be struggling with the handling of the RB21.
Red Bull has admitted that their car is hard to drive and that they are mostly building it around their fastest driver, but it is coming at the expense of Lawson who is finding it tough to pull out a result.
There are rumours that Lawson could be swapped with Yuki Tsunoda by Japan, but Red Bull could use the track that he has previous experience on to assess him before making a decision.
