F1 fans think ‘aggressive’ driver is now gaining more rivals in the paddock after his Spanish Grand Prix display

The Spanish Grand Prix was a mixed bag of results for some drivers, with a few getting their elbows out in a bid to secure better results for their team.

Nico Hulkenberg scored his first points for Sauber, while Fernando Alonso finally finished inside the top ten to score his first points of the season.

A few drivers were unsuccessful, including Gabriel Bortoleto, who managed to finish in 12th, having put in an impressive qualifying performance.

Discussing the race on social media website X (formerly Twitter), a few F1 fans believe one ‘aggressive’ driver is now gaining more rivals.

F1 fans agree that Liam Lawson has now gained more rivals after Spanish GP

Liam Lawson finished in P11 but got stuck in a few collisions on the way, including Alex Albon who eventually retired after a nightmare race.

Lawson would go on to collide with Oliver Bearman while racing for position, leading to a few on social media to voice their opinions on his performance.

“Liam Lawson is hands down the worst wheel-to-wheel driver on the grid,” said one fan.

Another fan wrote: “Liam Lawson should be DNF’d in every race instead of Kimi and Albon that dude thinks f1 racing is in a fast and furious movie.”

One fan wrote: “We’re gonna have to have a very, very uncomfortable conversation about Liam Lawson (and a comfortable one on the goat Isack Hadjar)…”

One fan took issue with the lack of penalties from the stewards for Lawson’s moves: “Liam Lawson hitting 2 cars without penalty,”

One fan wrote: “Liam Lawson is gaining a lot of rivals in the paddock. The general message towards him is one of tiredness and anger. He is not riding well and is being very unconscious and provocative.”

Another compared Lawson to Max Verstappen: “As much as Max is a tool at times, Liam Lawson was smashing drivers left, right and centre the whole race?”

Liam Lawson on five penalty points

Although Lawson was not investigated by the FIA stewards for his collisions on track, the New Zealander has accumulated a few points on his FIA Super Licence.

Lawson has five points that have been issued since December 1st last year, after first causing a collision with Valtteri Bottas during the Qatar Grand Prix.

His latest points were for a collision with Nico Hulkenberg during the 2025 Bahrain Grand Prix, for which he earned two on his licence.

Max Verstappen is now on 11 points and faces a one-race ban if he accumulates any more in the next two race weekends.
