F1 Japanese Grand Prix weather guide: Chance of rain for the Suzuka race

The 2025 Japanese Grand Prix is approaching, taking place at the popular Suzuka Circuit.

At this stage, there is a 50% chance of rain expected for the Grand Prix, according to Weather.com.

Heading into the race weekend, McLaren’s Lando Norris leads the drivers’ standings with 44 points followed by Red Bull’s Max Verstappen in second with 36 points and Mercedes driver George Russell in third with 35 points. 

Red Bull is looking to turn things around in Suzuka with an abrupt driver swap after just just two Grands Prix. The Milton Keynes outfit has decided to move Liam Lawson to its sister team Racing Bulls to drive alongside Isack Hadjar, and Yuki Tsunoda has secured the seat alongside Verstappen at Red Bull. The Japanese driver joins Red Bull after a four-year stint with the sister squad.

2025 Japanese Grand Prix weather forecast

Friday, 4 April

Practice 1: 11:30 – 12:30 local time
Practice 2: 15:00 – 16:00 local time

Friday is expected to be generally clear with a high of 16°C, 47% humidity, and winds NW of 10-15 mph. There is only a 1% chance of rain, giving the teams ideal conditions to complete decent practice laps in before qualifying on Saturday.

Saturday, 5 April

Practice 3: 11:30 – 12:30 local time
Qualifying: 15:00 – 16:00 local time

Saturday will see a small amount of cloud cover and the chance of rain increase to 10%. Temperatures will remain at a high of 16°C but the humidity is expected to rise to 56%. 

Overnight, the humidity is set to rise to a staggering 80% and there is currently a 50% chance of rain before Sunday.

Sunday, 6 April

Grand Prix: 14:00 local time

Showers are expected on the morning of race day, with a 50% chance of rain throughout the day. Temperatures are set to rise to 19°C with 59% humidity.
