Lewis Hamilton realised a childhood dream by joining Ferrari from the 2025 Formula 1 season, yet he heads to the Miami Grand Prix still without a podium while racing in red.
Florida marks round six of the 2025 F1 calendar and the first American race of the term. But Hamilton failed to finish higher than fifth through the first five Grands Prix of his Ferrari stay. Instead, the only high point of his season so far was the F1 Sprint during round two in China.
The Miami GP presents the second Sprint weekend of the season, yet McLaren are expected to be far ahead of their rivals once again. Hamilton upset the odds in the Shanghai Sprint by scoring pole and winning the 19-lap race, but has been miles from a rostrum in a Grand Prix.
Hamilton has only averaged a P7.25 finish and P7.4 qualifying result over his first five Grands Prix at Ferrari. He has further set average gaps to the race winner of 28.820s and 19.602s to the podium places, so Ferrari feel Hamilton is performing well below their expectations now.

Ferrari think Lewis Hamilton ‘throwing in the tunnel’ on the 2025 season is ‘unthinkable’
Even Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko thinks Hamilton looks ‘desperate’ at Ferrari after Charles Leclerc took their first podium of 2025 with P3 in Saudi Arabia. Hamilton was slower than Leclerc in every session but Q1 in Jeddah, as well, as the Briton’s woe persisted.
But, according to a report from Blick, Ferrari are very clear that it would be ‘unthinkable’ for Hamilton to ‘throw in the towel’ owing to his ongoing issues. The 40-year-old left Mercedes for Maranello on a two-year contract and Ferrari believe he will keep searching for answers.

A solution may be on the horizon, too, as Ferrari think the Spanish GP could transform their season. The FIA is due to enforce stricter static load tests on front wings in Barcelona to try to eliminate the flexi-wing saga, which Ferrari feel could also edge them closer to the front.
Lewis Hamilton could make the ‘unthinkable’ real if Ferrari struggle after the Spanish GP
But the Spanish GP is not until May 30 to June 1 with F1 racing in Miami this week and then visiting Ferrari’s literal backyard Imola for the Emilia Romagna GP on May 16-18, before the Monaco GP on May 23-25. So, Hamilton has three more races before his form may improve.

He will even be hoping to see the Scuderia bring further upgrades over the next few rounds. Ferrari’s ground clearance problems intensify in qualifying for Hamilton as the SF-25 is even more sensitive with low fuel levels than it is when he struggles for pace at the start of races.
Yet if his problems still persist after the FIA introduces stricter tests for flexi wings in Spain, then what Ferrari believe is currently ‘unthinkable’ could begin to become more realistic if Hamilton cannot see their season turning around and putting all of his focus into next year.
