Ferrari brings back all-white race suit as Puma create new F1 fashion

Ferrari fans have been treated to a number of special edition collections from PUMA in recent years and this time the drivers will also be setting the trends, joining a number of other famous Ferrari drivers who have raced in white over the years.

The first driver to do so, according to our best research, was Jody Scheckter, who wore a white and blue suit reflecting the colours of his personal sponsor, Brooklyn chewing gum, when he made his debut for the team in 1979.

Scheckter became Ferrari’s first white-overall winner with victories in Belgium and Monaco before his team-mate, Gilles Villeneuve, switched to all-white when he became the first to use the new fireproof Simpson Nomex suit, which only came in white.

Villeneuve stepped onto the podium in his white overalls at their debut race, in France, and Scheckter also swapped to the same gear for the rest of the year. Together, by the end of the season, the pair had helped Ferrari to win the World Constructors’ Championship.

Ferrari continued to use white overalls for three more seasons, with Didier Pironi replacing Scheckter from 1981, Patrick Tambay joining mid-season in 1982 following Villeneuve’s death and Mario Andretti stepping in for Pironi for the final two rounds.

They returned to red in 1983 and it stayed that way for 12 years until Michael Schumacher joined the team for a test in 1995 and drove in all-white unbranded overalls for his first ever run – because at that point he was not yet an official member of the team.

The legendary German’s spell with Ferrari aligned with the iconic white and red sponsor branded overalls and when he and the sponsor left at the end of 2006, the team went to red with white accents, adding extra white for another sponsor when Fernando Alonso arrived.

Most recently, Ferrari created a one-off white overall specifically for Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc in Monaco in 2023, with team-mate Carlos Sainz remaining in red. The special edition had red shoulders and accents echoing the colours of the Monegasque flag.

On announcing the latest all-white race suit and the special edition F1 apparel collection that has been created alongside it, Puma said: “The new release blends the energy of the race track and the iconic appeal of football apparel.

“It draws inspiration from the clean accent colour of the seasonal 2025 Scuderia Ferrari HP F1 car livery (especially present on engine cover), while also nodding to the heritage of football away kits, when the team wears a new uniform when playing away from home.”

Leclerc and Hamilton will wear the White Miami Limited Edition replica garment, paired with an exclusive white PUMA race suit, gloves, and Speedcat Pro footwear, whose design gives a nod to a Miami GP special car livery.

The exclusive F1 apparel collection will be available in limited quantities, making it a must-have for fans looking to own a piece of Scuderia Ferrari HP history. It is available at selected PUMA and Ferrari stores, as well as online at puma.com and store.ferrari.com.
