Ferrari fans will adore what Lewis Hamilton says the team are now doing ‘in the background’ after the Canadian GP

Lewis Hamilton was unable to deliver an improvement at one of his favourite tracks and continued to struggle at the Canadian Grand Prix.

The seven-time champion finished a distant sixth, reflecting his position in the drivers’ championship following yet another race of frustration for Ferrari.

It’s clear that their car doesn’t come alive on a Sunday for Hamilton, who appears to set his car up more for one-lap pace, while teammate Charles Leclerc is willing to sacrifice grid positions for more race pace.

With 14 rounds of the Formula 1 season to go, there’s plenty of time for the team to recover from an average start to the campaign. Time is running out ahead of a new set of regulations for next year, though.

Ferrari will be devastated by Hamilton’s unheard radio messages after he complained of having no rear end and poor braking performance in Montreal.

That was despite Hamilton achieving something ‘stunning’ at the Canadian Grand Prix by braking super late in qualifying. He clearly has high expectations for his anchors.

Lewis Hamilton admits that Ferrari are doing lots ‘in the background’ to curb their F1 struggles

Hamilton may not trust Ferrari after his shaky start to the season. It was expected that he at least would have managed a podium by round 10.

Instead, he’s left shaking his head and in desperate need of answers. Ferrari ‘will not’ give Hamilton what he wants and it may be making his life difficult.

His contract with them only lasts until the end of 2026, and without any clear steps, he may opt against exercising a one-year option for 2027.

Speaking after the Canadian Grand Prix, the Briton shared some details on what his team are doing to help fix their current issues.

“Clearly we need updates now, and I don’t know why we’re not bringing them, but I think, and I hope, that one will arrive soon,” he told La Gazetta dello Sport. “I can’t say much but there are a lot of things going on in the background.

“What is clear is that we don’t have a car to fight for the championship and we need to make sure that next year we have a great car, so we shouldn’t waste too much time worrying or focusing on that.”

Did Lewis Hamilton make the right decision to leave Mercedes?

Toto Wolff thinks it’s unfair to compare Kimi Antonelli to Hamilton just a handful of races into the Italian rookie’s career.

At times, he has been unfortunate, such as mechanical retirements in Imola and Spain, as well as a poor setup in Monaco. But for the most part, he has been just as impressive as Hamilton has been at Ferrari.

In fact, after their one-three finish at Montreal, Hamilton may now be thinking that he left the Silver Arrows at the wrong time.

With rumours that they will be backed by a very strong engine for 2026, they could be a force to be reckoned with for some considerable time.
