Ferrari are hoping to swing the momentum in their favour as F1 undergoes major changes at the Spanish Grand Prix.
The Maranello outfit have struggled for consistent performance in 2025, with Charles Leclerc grabbing the team’s only podiums thus far in Jeddah and Monaco. Lewis Hamilton has not finished in the top three in the famous red colours, but has claimed two Sprint podiums, including the win in Shanghai.
Poor strategy calls and decision-making, as well as miscommunication from the pit wall have added to Ferrari’s woes with the SF-25. The team’s new radical front suspension has not paid off, with them at times being slower than Williams.
Ferrari closed the gap to Mercedes in second in the constructors’ championship in Monaco, as the Silver Arrows failed to score points. Despite finishing P2 and P5, the team desperately need to find improvements with upgrades.
Ferrari ‘confirmed’ the drivability quality from the SF-24 has been rediscovered with the SF-25 after the Monaco GP weekend. Therefore, their new front wing and rear wing updates should give Leclerc and Hamilton the chance to challenge McLaren and Red Bull, but there are some interesting details.

Ferrari have copied the ‘wavy’ rear endplate design from Haas at the Spanish Grand Prix
This weekend’s race in Barcelona will see a strict clampdown from the FIA on front wing flexibility. The new rules state that any front wing flap may not deflect more than 3mm.
Ferrari hope the FIA’s directive will halt McLaren, as the Woking-based outfit are said to have benefitted the most from the front wing flexing. They are already 177 points ahead of the Maranello outfit in fourth.

Each team will have come to the Spanish Grand Prix with their own designs for the new front wing rules. But in a report from AutoRacer, Ferrari’s ‘has changed a lot in its construction’.
The new front wing has a ‘different crossing of the carbon skin in practically all areas’, making it more ‘rigid’. It also has some aerodynamic changes, with the ‘most important’ ones in the external part in the endplate.
What is interesting is that Ferrari seem to have taken inspiration from technical partners Haas. The American outfit, who have yet to win a race in F1, have used a ‘wavy’ design for the rear part of the endplate, which Ferrari look to have adopted for their new front wing for Barcelona.

Haas had refused to use some Ferrari parts for their 2025 F1 car
This is not the first time the Maranello outfit have taken inspiration from their partners for their 2025 car. Ferrari copied Haas’ extra slots around the airbox to improve cooling on the SF-25.
However, the partnership has not seen things work the other way, as Haas refused to adopt Ferrari’s new front suspension in 2025. The team, spearheaded by Ayao Komatsu, will be proud of their start to the season as they sit sixth in the constructors’ standings.
Ferrari will be desperate for their upgrades to work and for the gap to be narrowed in Barcelona. Hamilton is suffering from a ‘chronic lack of confidence’ in the front end of the car, which he hopes will improve over the next few races.
It is not currently known how much of an effect the new rules will have on the field, with McLaren stating it will have little difference to the pecking order. Ferrari will hope their new design will be enough to pull closer to their rivals.
