Final F1 film trailer unveiled as anticipation for June release intensifies

Formula 1 has presented the final trailer for the upcoming F1 movie starring Brad Pitt and directed by Top Gun Maverick’s Joseph Kosinski.

F1’s feature film, which will be released in June, stars Damson Idris’s character Joshua Pearce alongside Pitt’s Sonny Hayes, a retired veteran racer making a comeback for APX GP.

The 2m24s minute trailer released on Monday further teases the movie’s main plot, with the two drivers at odds with each other from the outset as veteran Hayes is brought into the fold to help save the team from collapse, facing off against Pearce, a wary, up and coming talent.

It also showcases some of the production team’s extensive filming done on location, with Pitt and Idris rubbing shoulders with the likes of Max Verstappen on the Silverstone starting grid.

Kerry Condon, who plays the team’s race director Kate, also features heavily in the trailer, in what will undoubtedly be a change of pace from her starring role in The Banshees of Inisherin.

F1 fans will also recognise further filming in Las Vegas, Abu Dhabi, and Monza, while the iconic McLaren Technology Centre in Woking makes an appearance as the APX GP headquarters.

“The trailer combines the exhilaration of Formula 1 with the compelling fictional story of former F1 driver Sonny Hayes, played by Brad Pitt,” an F1 press release read.

“Dubbed ‘the greatest that never was’, Sonny Hayes was among Formula 1‘s most promising phenoms of the 1990s until a major accident. 30 years later, he’s a nomadic racer-for-hire when he’s approached by his former team-mate Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem), owner of a struggling F1 team on the verge of collapse.

“Ruben convinces Sonny to come back to Formula 1 for one last shot at saving the team and being the best in the world. He drives alongside Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), the team’s hotshot rookie intent on setting his own pace.

“But as the engines roar, Sonny’s past catches up with him and he finds that in F1, your team-mate is your fiercest competition – and the road to redemption is not something you can travel alone.”

Producers of the film include Top Gun’s Jerry Bruckheimer as well as seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, who has played an advisory role to ensure F1’s first Hollywood feature is as authentic as possible.

The F1 film will be released in cinemas from 25 June internationally and 27 June in North America.
