If Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur is fighting for his future then the Canadian Grand Prix didn’t do too much to help his cause.
A third constructor added their name to the list of winners during the 2025 F1 season with George Russell earning Mercedes an all-important victory in Montreal.
He was joined on the podium by Max Verstappen and teammate Andrea Kimi Antonelli, with Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton having to settle for P5 and P6 respectively.
It means Ferrari are now the highest-ranked team in the constructors’ championship yet to win a race in 2025, but it doesn’t look like either of their drivers will achieve that feat any time soon.
Hamilton was complaining about brake issues on the team radio during the Canadian Grand Prix that hampered his progress.

He also unfortunately hit a groundhog which damaged his floor and explained why he was so far off the pace of his teammate.
Ferrari need to decide whether they’re going to continue pushing to improve in 2025 or if they need to start concentrating on next year’s changing regulations.
Hamilton and Fred Vasseur don’t seem to agree entirely on what Ferrari’s biggest problem is after another underwhelming race in Canada.

Fred Vasseur identifies Ferrari’s ‘main problem’ after the Canadian Grand Prix
Speaking to the press, via Motorsport Italia, after the race in Canada, it was put to Vasseur that Hamilton said several times to the press that Ferrari aren’t bringing new parts soon.
Vasseur responded to this and said: “Soon. We will have updates soon.
“But I don’t think that’s the main problem. If you make the first record sector here, I don’t think there’s a need to bring so many updates.
“It’s not that the others bring them to every weekend and it’s not that we don’t bring anything just because we don’t declare them.
“We have to focus on ourselves because we didn’t do a clean job this weekend.”

Hamilton is biding his time for Ferrari to update his rear suspension which will potentially allow him to run the car lower, something he’s not been able to do since his disqualification in Shanghai aside from the Monaco Grand Prix.
Vasseur will be desperate for Leclerc and Hamilton to minimise any mistakes, with the Monegasque driver faltering in qualifying leading to a fourth-row start.
He had the pace in the race to challenge for a podium had he started further up the grid which highlights what Vasseur is saying about the issues Ferrari need to iron out.

Fred Vasseur addresses questions about his Ferrari future after the Canadian Grand Prix
Heading into the race in Canada, rumours had started to swirl about Vasseur’s future.
Nico Rosberg relayed what Leclerc had told him about Vasseur leading up to the race with reports in the Italian media suggesting he was under pressure.
Asked if he felt the trust of the owners, Vasseur explained: “Yes yes, it’s not a problem.
“This is a problem that doesn’t exist. The important thing is that everyone pushes in the same direction, but even more, we need serenity.

“I don’t want to have to fight with everyone internally and externally. We want to fight as a team.
“We know that we won’t do a perfect job every weekend. We saw Mercedes, who struggled enormously in the last few weekends, but it’s not like they made a revolution.
“They had three difficult weekends, but they continued to work, develop and today they were successful.
“We also have to do it this way. We are second in the world championship, it’s not the end of the world. We have to continue to do our job”.
