The Monaco Grand Prix was a fairly quiet affair by Formula 1’s standards in 2025, with Lando Norris securing a vital second victory of the season.
He led home local hero Charles Leclerc and teammate Oscar Piastri to pull within just three points at the top of the constructors’ championship.
Somehow, it was a Monaco Grand Prix with very little in the way of incidents on track, and for the most part, drivers kept things clean.
The only driver who sustained significant damage was Pierre Gasly, who had a mega shunt after running into the back of Yuki Tsunoda.
A lot of Alpine’s talk has been about driver swapping in their second seat, but their performance on track has been a little worrying this year.
Jolyon Palmer has spotted a fundamental flaw with Gasly and believes that he needs to start taking less risks at the start of Formula 1 races. He thinks it might be costing him and his team.

Guenther Steiner frustrated by ‘perfect’ Pierre Gasly making the same mistakes in 2025
Gasly has been ‘impressed’ by Flavio Briatore, his new boss after Oliver Oakes resigned as team principal of Alpine.
He has history with the team and famously won two championships with them in the 2000s when they were known as Renault.
Gasly has been a bit inconsistent this year, performing either really well or poorly. It’s something which has left ex-Haas boss Guenther Steiner a bit frustrated.
“Yeah, it’s either high or low. There’s nothing in between,” he said. “He has got some qualifying performances with that car, because the car is not good, you know, or the engine is not good.
“But, he’s putting some perfect, I mean going into Q3, once qualified fourth I think. Something stupid like this. Then again, Monte Carlo, it’s just like everything that can go wrong, you can do wrong happens.
“I don’t know. Maybe he’s always driving beyond the car. Overdriving it because the car is so bad that he just wants to get something out of it and it’s always on the knife’s edge, falls off the other side normally.”
How much longer is Pierre Gasly under contract with Alpine for?
Gasly has technically only ever driven for three teams, with Racing Bulls, Red Bull and Alpine being his home throughout the last eight years.
With silly season approaching soon, the Formula 1 driver market may be about to intensify as teams look to snap drivers up ahead of their rivals.
The 2026 F1 regulations may be the biggest set of changes ever seen in the sport’s history, making it almost impossible to predict who will be quick.
Fortunately for Gasly, he won’t have to make a decision on who to join until after the first year of the rules, having signed a new deal last year which lasts him until the end of 2026.
Then, he will be in a good position to assess who is strong and go from there. That’s if he even wants to depart his current team, who he will have been with for four seasons by then.
