How Charles Leclerc feels about leaving Ferrari after their disastrous start to the 2025 F1 season

Charles Leclerc is currently in his seventh season racing for Ferrari, but won’t be satisfied with his or the team’s performance this year.

Only Michael Schumacher, Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa have started more races for Ferrari in Formula 1 than Charles Leclerc.

By the end of the 2025 F1 season, Leclerc will have overtaken Massa and will be a single Grand Prix behind Raikkonen.

However, Schumacher won five titles for the Scuderia, Raikkonen is Ferrari’s most recent champion, and Massa was a single corner away from adding his name to that list were it not for Leclerc’s current teammate, Lewis Hamilton.

Rubens Barrichello 102 9 0

Leclerc undoubtedly has the talent to be a Formula 1 world champion, but has yet to be given the car to achieve that feat.

This season is no different, with Leclerc becoming increasingly frustrated with Ferrari as he’s yet to clinch his first pole position in 2025 and has only finished on the podium on three occasions.

Team principal Fred Vasseur’s job is under pressure, and now questions are arising about Ferrari’s engines for the 2026 season.

This has surfaced suggestions that Leclerc might decide that, after seven years, he could explore his options elsewhere in the paddock.

Former Ferrari communications advisor and journalist Roberto Boccafogli has now shared what he knows about Leclerc’s Formula 1 future.

Charles Leclerc a ‘genuine lover’ of Ferrari despite 2025 Formula 1 struggles

Boccafogli was asked whether Leclerc is starting to lose faith in Ferrari, and he explained: “Fred yesterday said that he’s sure that Charles is not even thinking of leaving Ferrari. I believe him. I really believe him.

“Charles is a genuine lover of Ferrari. He feels Ferrari as if it is his own family.

“Of course, now he’s not 23 anymore. Now he’s 28 or what? 29, 28. He’s starting to see that his possibilities are escaping away without the proper possibility to win and with the big question mark on next year.

“But still, I don’t think that he’s proposing himself to somebody else here or Nicholas Todt.

“I can feel it. He has so much love for Ferrari, so much in love. I really don’t feel this.”

Davide Valsecchi left unimpressed with Charles Leclerc at the Canadian Grand Prix

Leclerc is incredibly highly rated and will be frustrated that he’s almost certainly going to have to write off this season already.

Ferrari will need to quickly decide whether to persevere with this year’s car or switch their full attention to 2026.

Leclerc has become increasingly annoyed on the team radio during races, regularly questioning Ferrari’s strategy calls.

David Coulthard enjoyed Ferrari’s assertive response to Leclerc’s radio suggestions in Canada when he asked about changing to a one-stop strategy.

However, his messages weren’t seen that positively by other figures in the paddock.

Davide Valsecchi told Leclerc to ‘shut up and drive’ after hearing his communications with his race engineer.

Although these messages are broadcast under incredibly high pressure, Leclerc will want to know how Ferrari plan to become competitive again before the end of the season as Formula 1 prepares to enter its next set of regulations.
