James Vowles has made ‘massive push’ to improve one area at Williams that he learned from his time at Mercedes

Formula 1 teams are gearing up to launch their cars for the 2025 season, with a special one-off event planned for the championship’s 75th anniversary.

For the first time, all 10 teams will be launching their cars at the same event at London’s O2 Arena in front of at least 20,000 fans.

The event will mark F1’s 75th season and will see each team unveil their car in front of a live audience, getting time to show off either their proper 2025 challenger or their livery on a mockup car.

Williams was one of the first teams to announce they would be doing a separate launch of their FW47 at an event in Silverstone, with Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon present.

The full chassis will take to the track in a one-off camo livery, while their full livery will be unveiled at F1 75 event. This is down to an area that team principal James Vowles learned from while he was at Mercedes, according to journalist Scott Mitchell-Malm on The Race podcast.

James Vowles brings marketing expertise from Mercedes to Williams

Vowles has undoubtedly changed Williams’s fortunes for the better since he took over in 2023, with ambitions to return to their glory years under the leadership of Frank Williams.

The team has improved in all areas, with Vowles confirming that Williams was running tests for 2025 last season to improve their fortunes. Now they are deviating from the planned F1 75 launch to pull focus on their own sponsors after it was expected they would lose out financially.

“There are quite a few teams who are frustrated and I think Williams was one of them. In hindsight, we shouldn’t be so surprised that they are going to go big with their own plans, because they’ve recognised that they are going to lose value on the night in terms of being able to control things on the night,” said Mitchell-Malm.

“One of the things James Vowles has done since he came in has made a massive push on the marketing side, which is something he would’ve learned from Mercedes.”

Which other teams are doing their own car launch alongside the F1 75 event?

Other teams have also decided to circumvent launching fully at the F1 75 event by announcing their own plans, with both Haas and Ferrari set to show off their proper 2025 challenger separately in their own launches and through a shakedown.

Ferrari makes sense given the grandiose around Hamilton’s arrival at the team after around 3,000 flocked to Maranello to watch him take to their Fiorano test track for the first time.

Haas will be running the shakedown with Esteban Ocon to sort out any potential problems early on, considering he is taller than Oliver Bearman.

Aston Martin will also have a separate launch event in the days before pre-season testing in Bahrain, where it is expected to show off their proper 2025 chassis ahead of a shakedown.
