Karun Chandhok now shares exactly what changes he would make to improve Formula 1 cars

Sky Sports pundit Karun Chandhok has now shared the changes he would make to the current Formula 1 cars to make the sport more watchable.

Not only have Red Bull and Max Verstappen dominated recent seasons, but the cars are no longer as noisy or atheistically pleasing as they used to be.

Posting on social media, Chandhok has now shared what he would like to see change about the current cars on the grid.

The way Formula 1 cars have evolved over the years has been nothing short of extraordinary.

Particularly when it comes to the safety of the drivers, huge strides forward have been made in recent years.

It’s still incredible that Romain Grosjean escaped from his burning car in Bahrain and is still currently racing, while Zhou Guanyu’s upside-down Alfa Romeo at Silverstone is another harrowing image.

However, there are some changes that Formula 1 purists are less happy with.

Twenty years ago, the cars sounded magnificent and looked fantastic, but changes to the engines and regulations mean a lot of fans hark back to those halcyon days.

Chandhok has now shared what changes he would make to Formula 1 cars to bring us closer to those races and keep the sport heading towards sustainability.

It might not be easy to fulfil his requests but it would certainly be a popular change with plenty of spectators.

Chandhok shares the changes he wants to see in Formula 1 cars

Responding to a video of Fernando Alonso driving his old Renault car, Chandhok said: “Honestly…. It drives me [a] mad!

“I’ve said it before and will say it again – V8 / V10 on sustainable fuels, ditch the batteries and hybrid, make the cars smaller and should be able to make them [a] 120 kilos lighter!”

There are changes coming to Formula 1 cars in 2026 but they’re unlikely to be in line with what Chandhok’s suggesting.

The sport is on the road to becoming as sustainable as possible and that still makes the old V8 and V10 engines trickier to use.

But, it’s hard not to reminisce about the sounds and the sights of Formula from 20 years ago.

It was a golden age for the look of the cars, but they were much less reliable and unfortunately more unsafe.
