Lewis Hamilton describes what he’s found ‘tough’ at Ferrari during his first weeks with his new F1 team

Seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton faces the biggest challenge of his career so far in 2025.

Ferrari have extremely high expectations for this season with Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc in their cars.

The Italian team narrowly missed out on winning the constructors’ championship last year to McLaren.

That’s despite a brilliant double-podium finish in Abu Dhabi, including one of the best performances of the season from Leclerc to move up 16 places to put pressure on Lando Norris.

While Carlos Sainz put in plenty of admirable performances for Ferrari last year, the Tifosi will be expecting Hamilton to be a level above the Spaniard given his pedigree.

Although Hamilton hasn’t had the smoothest time over the past few seasons with Mercedes, he hopes a new challenge at Ferrari will help reinvigorate him and help him win a record eighth title.

Hamilton gave a one-word answer when asked about racing for Ferrari during the F1 75 launch event.

In an interview with REC Anything on YouTube, Hamilton has now shared why he’s so excited about his move to Ferrari, but also what he’s found ‘tough’ about his first few weeks with the team.

Lewis Hamilton admits first few weeks at Ferrari have been ‘tough’ but enjoyable

Hamilton was asked whether his first few weeks at Ferrari had lived up to his expectations and said: “I don’t approach anything with an expectation but it’s definitely…I tried to imagine it and it’s that and so much more.

“The sheer magnitude and size of the team, the passion when you actually get into the team and feel it, it’s something real and almost quantifiable.

“Just getting to move around the factory, it’s a place that you just enjoy being at. The days that we’ve been working here until 10 pm at night and it’s like, no one wants to go home, everyone’s just so dedicated.

“We have such a steep learning curve to come across together, so I anticipated honestly that it was going to be tough and it very much is, but we’re working towards something really exciting.

“I’m also trying to always arrive every day with a really open mind. I’m learning a lot every day and I guess I knew I needed something new, I knew I needed this new challenge, I think when I got here, I realised just how much I needed it and how great it felt and I’m literally walking around with such a big smile on my face every day I come to work. It’s very revitalising.”

Ferrari launch 2025 F1 livery ahead of official unveiling at Maranello

Hamilton, Leclerc and team principal Frederic Vasseur were the penultimate team to unveil their team’s livery for the 2025 season at the F1 75 launch event in London.

Racing Bulls took fans by surprise with their livery, however, the rest of the grid looked very familiar.

Ferrari also didn’t shock anyone when revealing their car, the iconic red livery looking as good as it always does.

However, Wednesday’s official launch at Maranello will give fans and technical expert the chance to see their real 2025 car in action for the first time.

Hamilton will want to avoid crashing at Fiorano as he did during a private test in Barcelona, although the team have downplayed that shunt as something that does occasionally happen to even the best drivers when acclimatising to a new machine.

It all comes down to when the lights go out in Australia to see whether Hamilton’s ‘tough’ start to life at Ferrari alongside his new colleagues has paid off.
