It’s no surprise that Ferrari’s fans, known as the Tifosi, are already drawing parallels between Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher.
Michael Schumacher arrived at Ferrari in 1996 as the biggest star on the grid with two world championships under his belt.
It took some time, but Schumacher carried Ferrari for years, winning five titles on the bounce before Fernando Alonso ended his reign of supremacy in 2005.
Lewis Hamilton already has seven championships to his name ahead of becoming a Ferrari driver, and arguably an even bigger reputation to upkeep than the German.
Ferrari fans made their support for Hamilton known the first time he stepped into one of their cars at Fiorano, with thousands arriving to show their support.

However, the season hasn’t started as they would have liked, with Hamilton and Charles Leclerc narrowly sneaking into the top 10 of the drivers’ championship.
Leclerc is loved by the Tifosi, but Hamilton’s arrival dwarfed the interest that fellow champions Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso received when they became Ferrari drivers.
Hamilton has a long way to go to be considered on the same level as Schumacher, but his Sprint Race win at the Chinese Grand Prix, which came slightly out of the blue, inspired the same reaction as some of Schumacher’s greatest moments.

Ferrari fans react to Lewis Hamilton’s Sprint Race win like a Michael Schumacher victory
Italian journalist Roberto Boccafogli was speaking on The Race F1 Podcast about Ferrari’s 2025 campaign thus far.
Boccafogli was asked how the Tifosi had reacted to Ferrari’s start to the season, but mainly what happened in China, and he said: “So, to me, the main word is surprise because it was very much surprising starting not at the level that everybody was expecting.
“If you remember, there were some words at the presentation at Lewis’ first appearance in Maranello, there was a very strong feeling about the possibility to be competitive quite soon.
“Then Australia was quite disappointing because it was so clear that McLaren was so far in front.
“In China, all of a sudden, everything appeared to be very fantastic, a lot of solutions were found and so on, to the point where Lewis was winning on Saturday.

“I tell you that win was really strong. I remember on Italian TV, the reaction from the Tifosi and so on was incredible.
“It looks something very, very close to the Michael Schumacher era because of all the incredible love for Michael is back now for Lewis.
“Considering the love of the Tifosi and of Italy for Charles Leclerc, it is a fantastic love, but anyway, Lewis is Lewis. He’s a seven-time world champion, and so, unfortunately, Sunday happened, because the enthusiastic result on Saturday disappeared totally on Sunday.
“Even before the disqualification, because of course, both cars were not even close to that competitiveness of Saturday.”

Ferrari star Lewis Hamilton is making every effort to earn the Tifosi’s adulation
Hamilton would have been desperate for Ferrari’s 2025 F1 car to be capable of competing against McLaren and Max Verstappen for the championship.
Unfortunately, the SF-25 is too inconsistent at this stage, meaning that Hamilton’s brilliant Sprint Race win was immediately followed by a disappointing performance during the Grand Prix.

Fred Vasseur isn’t under pressure at Ferrari despite their double disqualification, but none of the blame falls on Hamilton.
Hamilton has been trying to learn to speak Italian and greeted both Ferrari’s staff and fans with the basic phrases that he’s learned.
Before the season started, Hamilton spent countless hours at Ferrari’s factory in an attempt to get up to speed, but he will be well aware of how much work he still needs to do.
