The first five races of the 2025 Formula 1 season put every driver under pressure, but none more so than those who joined new teams over the winter break.
Lewis Hamilton was among the 10 drivers who were either promoted into F1 full-time or switched seats in the paddock this year.
There’s been a huge amount of interest in his move to Ferrari after spending the past 17 seasons competing against the Scuderia.
Hamilton denied Sebastian Vettel a fifth world championship on two occasions while racing for Mercedes, and the German was the man responsible for preventing Fernando Alonso from breaking Ferrari’s championship-winning duck earlier in his career.

Eighteen years on from the last time Ferrari won a championship, Hamilton and Charles Leclerc are racing to try and end that streak.
However, Hamilton has had a tough start at Ferrari, and although the car wasn’t easy to handle for either driver at the start of the year, Leclerc has taken a step forward during the past two races and opened up a significant advantage over his new teammate.

Peter Windsor spots Lewis Hamilton ‘problem’ that might be impossible to solve
Formula 1 expert Peter Windsor was speaking on his YouTube channel and reflecting on Hamilton’s start to life at Maranello.
Jolyon Palmer is worried about Hamilton’s adaptation at Ferrari, and giving his own take on what’s happening, Windsor said, “A lot of people would think, well, seven-time world champion, how can I tell him what to do?
“But quite clearly, he does need to be told what to do. Whether he would find it on his own, I very much doubt it, I think he would just go and do what he does.
“He’s very self-critical but I don’t think he’s detailed enough, I don’t think he’s ever understood how he drives.
“I don’t think that’s a bad thing, I don’t think Max [Verstappen] really understands how he drivers. I don’t think the great drivers do, they just do it.
“And I think that’s the problem in a way when you eventually get to where Lewis is, he doesn’t actually know what he’s doing differently.

“It probably feels the same for him that it always has, in terms of how he drives the car, how he brakes, how he turns in.
“He doesn’t realise that he’s doing these things. I think up 2021, compared with all his teammates, he was always turning in a lot earlier.
“Compared with Max even, he was right there where Max was, and it all changed when the car became a difficult car.”

Sebastian Vettel gives his take on Lewis Hamilton racing for Ferrari
Vettel will have plenty of sympathy for the struggles that Hamilton is going through given how his career tapered out during his last season with Ferrari before he joined Aston Martin.
Hamilton has been told he’s suffering from a similar issue to Vettel already and having reached out to him for advice ahead of the move to discuss race engineer Riccardo Adami, it might be worth contacting him again.
As Windsor suggests, Hamilton not completely understanding why he’s so fast might end up being part of his downfall.

Racing on his instincts has served him so well over the years, but makes it far more difficult to work out what’s going wrong when things aren’t perfect.
Vettel has warned Ferrari that Hamilton might need more time to adapt, something neither party has in abundance.
Hamilton doesn’t have years and years ahead of him to hone his craft with the Scuderia, while Ferrari need to deliver results sooner rather than later.
