The start of Lewis Hamilton’s much-awaited stint with Ferrari’s Formula 1 team has failed to live up to expectations.
The Briton sits sixth in the drivers’ championship after 10 races, and is yet to reach the podium in a Grand Prix for the Scuderia.
His Canadian Grand Prix was another miserable affair after suffering damage early in the race. His Ferrari lost nearly half a second per lap in downforce after hitting a groundhog.
Currently, there isn’t much reason for enthusiasm. The team Hamilton left just secured their first victory of the year, and appear to have developed a better car. It’s a worrying omen for the 2026 F1 regulations.
Hamilton isn’t satisfied with the Ferrari factory and believes that their working methods are too narrow. They aren’t willing to think outside the box enough.
On another negative note, Hamilton will not like hearing about Ferrari’s 2026 engine and what the paddock is indicating about it currently. There are many ‘unknowns’ about their engine.

Lewis Hamilton’s communication with Ferrari engineer has been ‘terrible’ in 2025
Ferrari could do something drastic to help Hamilton and set up a base in the United Kingdom in a bid to help him get more comfortable with the team.
With every race that goes by, fans continue to wait for a long-awaited podium, but it doesn’t feel like it’s getting any closer. Fred Vasseur disagrees with Hamilton over Ferrari’s ‘main problem’ and doesn’t believe that upgrades are the only way forward.
Ex-Red Bull driver Robert Doornbos has now spoken out about the ‘terrible’ aspect of Hamilton’s move that he has noticed. It might be really impacting him.
“A great start. The media, the value of the company went up. Everybody loved it, right? But then the performance comes, or the performance doesn’t come,” he said.
“The communication with his engineer is terrible. It’s like in any marriage, you can have your ups and downs, but there’s no up. It was only down.
“It’s not what he wants, and Barcelona was terrible for him. Now we arrive in Canada, he hits, you don’t believe it, on lap 13, a groundhog. It cost him half a second per lap on downforce.”

Why Ferrari will be devastated by Lewis Hamilton’s complaints at the Canadian Grand Prix
For much of the year, it has been a struggle for Hamilton to remain within touching distance of teammate Charles Leclerc.
The Monegasque driver knows the team and car well, having been a part of the organisation for seven seasons now.
But even he hasn’t been able to deliver much of note, and has had a bit of a quiet Formula 1 season by his standards.
Ferrari will be devastated by Hamilton’s complaints over the radio in Montreal, as he complained about having no rear end to lean on.
Not only would that make him slower, but it might be damaging his confidence too. The longer it goes on, the more frustrating the situation will become for everyone.
