Lewis Hamilton has not enjoyed the start to life at Ferrari he would have hoped for before the 2025 Formula 1 season began.
There was significant hype surrounding the seven-time world champion after his seismic move to Maranello became official in January. However, after three races in 2025, Hamilton has scored just 15 points.
Ferrari have been bitterly disappointing so far this season as they sit fourth in the constructors’ championship. Having finished 14 points behind McLaren in 2024, they are already 76 points behind them after three races this year.

Mercedes are 40 points up the road while Red Bull are 26.points ahead, despite only Max Verstappen scoring points for the team. Besides Hamilton’s win in the Sprint race in China, it has been a miserable start to life in Maranello for the Brit.
He was not helped by his and Charles Leclwerc’s disqualification from the Chinese Grand Prix. Without it, Ferrari would have been 18 points better off, but it would still place them fourth in the standings.
The team struggled to match the pace of their rivals at the Japanese Grand Prix as Leclerc and Hamilton came home fourth and seventh respectively. Heading into this weekend’s Bahrain Grand Prix, Ferrari will hope they can find some performance and take advantage of the latter’s impact behind the scenes.

Marc Gene says Lewis Hamilton has been ‘exceptional’ with tyre management since joining Ferrari
Since Hamilton arrived in Maranello, it has been clear that the 40-year-old is determined to make his stint in red a success. Whether that be putting in long hours at the factory or learning Italian, the effort has been there from the Brit.
Ferrari ambassador Marc Gene has noticed this first hand. While the results have not been there so far in 2025, Hamilton is striving to find improvements and push further up the order.
Hamilton has been giving crucial information in briefings to aid his team in perfecting the SF-25. Speaking via the Beyond The Grid podcast, Gene has also found the seven-time champion has improved one key weakness from his time at Mercedes.
Hamilton had struggled with tyre management at the Silver Arrows and Ferrari looked to address that over the winter. Now, according to Gene, he has been ‘exceptional’ in that area in 2025.
“He’s very exceptional in tyre management. I look at the telemetry and you see some things that he’s very exceptional.
“I know people say: ‘Ah, he won so much because he had the best team’. Now that I’ve seen him, there’s a reason why he won so much.”

Are frustrations starting to creep in for Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari?
While Hamilton seems to have made a huge improvement in one area at Ferrari, it is clear there is still a lot of work to do. The Brit is still learning how to effectively communicate with race engineer Ricciardo Adami after he seemed agitated over the radio in Melbourne.
Hamilton was annoyed with the media because of how his messages with Adami were perceived. He felt the exchanges were seen as a potential rift between the two – Hamilton silenced his critics as he and the Italian seemed more connected after his Sprint win.
However, the 40-year-old’s frustration with the pit wall are still apparent. Hamilton was annoyed the pit board did not show the gap ahead after he passed Isack Hadjar for P7 at Suzuka.
After three races, 15 points is not the tally the seven-time champion would have hoped for at Ferrari. It is obvious the team have to find performance or they risk falling further back.
