Liam Lawson is still yet to score a single point during the first six rounds of the 2025 F1 season which began with the Racing Bulls ace spending the first two races at Red Bull.
The 23-year-old started his campaign in Milton Keynes after realising his childhood dream of being a Red Bull driver. Lawson got the call over Yuki Tsunoda to replace Sergio Perez in their main line-up in December, yet returned to Faenza this March after failing to meet their grade.
Driving for Racing Bulls is also yet to get the best out of Lawson again after entering five and six Grands Prix for the junior Red Bull outfit in 2023 and 2024. The Kiwi is yet to finish a race higher than the P12s he earned with Red Bull in China plus with Racing Bulls in Saudi Arabia.

Liam Lawson admits his Racing Bulls results are ‘shocking’ after failing to put a race weekend together
Shanghai proved to be Lawson’s final outing with Red Bull after he was the slowest driver in both qualifying sessions at the Chinese Grand Prix as it was an F1 Sprint weekend. Also, Red Bull grew frustrated with Lawson’s difficulties adapting to the RB21 given its balance issues.
Returning to Faenza was supposed to help the Hastings native rebuild after the very difficult stint he had in Milton Keynes as the VCARB 02 is kinder to drive. Yet Lawson has only beaten rookie Isack Hadjar once as teammates so far in qualifying for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

Lawson even retired on Lap 36/57 of the Miami Grand Prix on Sunday due to the damage he sustained after contact with Alpine rookie Jack Doohan into Turn 1 at the start. Now, Lawson feels his results have been ‘shocking’ after failing to put a weekend for Racing Bulls together.
“Most of them have been pretty shocking,” Lawson told RacingNews365. “Comfort-wise, I feel really good in the car [and] the speed has been pretty good most places.
“Unfortunately, no results. We have no points. There are a lot of variables in our sport, and putting a full race together can be quite tough. The speed has been there for most of it. Unfortunately, it hasn’t worked out for us so far.”
Liam Lawson must turn a corner as Red Bull weigh up his future with the Formula 1 team
Lawson was set to score his first points of the 2025 F1 season last weekend at the Miami GP after finishing the F1 Sprint in seventh place on the road. But the Racing Bulls rookie lost his two points as Lawson got a five-second post-race penalty for contact with Fernando Alonso.
Racing Bulls and Lawson may feel slightly hard done by that the Kiwi received a penalty that cost him points, as well. Alonso ran Lawson off the road exiting Turn 12 as the Aston Martin driver sought to retain P8 on L14/18 before turning across the Racing Bulls star’s front wing.

Had Alonso not squeezed Lawson wide at T12, then they would have avoided the contact at T13 that pitched the two-time F1 champion into the wall. But it was also the type of contact that Lawson must avoid as he needs to turn a corner to remain a part of the Red Bull family.
It is now said that Lawson will be ‘done’ at Red Bull if Arvid Lindblad impresses in F2 during his rookie season this year. Lindblad, a 17-year-old British-Swedish prospect, sits seventh in the Formula 2 standings after the first five races and won the Sprint Race in Jeddah, as well.
