Martin Brundle now shares why he thinks Lewis Hamilton is joining Ferrari in 2025

Sky Sports pundit Martin Brundle has explained why he thinks Lewis Hamilton is switching Mercedes for Ferrari in 2025.

It’s set to be one of the biggest announcements in Formula 1 history when the seven-time world champion leaves behind Mercedes at the end of the season.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Brundle talked about the 39-year-old’s next step.

Lewis Hamilton has never been afraid to make a big decision when it comes to his Formula 1 career.

McLaren were in a decent spot when he decided to leave the team back in 2012.

Mercedes had just re-joined the grid with Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg, but when the legendary German decided to retire for a second time, Lewis Hamilton took his place.

After a fourth-place finish in his opening season, he went on to win six of the next seven world titles.

However, the last two seasons have been below par for Mercedes, winning just a single race across both campaigns.

Martin Brundle has now explained why he thinks Hamilton has decided that now is the right time to join Ferrari.

It’s an exceptional coup for the Italian team but they’ll be under serious pressure to build a title-winning car for the 39-year-old.

Brundle shares why he thinks Hamilton has joined Ferrari

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Brundle said: “He’s had a couple of years of not winning a race, we see other changes he’s made around [him] bringing Marc Hynes who was his long-time mentor, eyes and ears in the paddock, really solid guy to have around him.

“And I think Lewis has probably gone, well I’m going to stop focusing so much on all the stuff outside of motor racing and I just want to get back to Lewis Hamilton the racing driver.

“And I think this is just a wonderful opportunity to motivate him, to energise him for this phase of his career.”

Hamilton will be desperate to return to winning ways as Brundle suggests and it’ll be interesting to see if Ferrari is the place for him to do that.

Red Bull would be the obvious option for any driver who wanted to win a world championship.

However, there’s absolutely no way Hamilton and Max Verstappen could be teammates.

Instead, the 39-year-old will be competing against someone at Ferrari who Brundle has already said could be even faster than the Dutchman.

Charles Leclerc won’t let Hamilton walk over him and Ferrari may have to deal with having two drivers who genuinely believe they can win the world championship.
