Martin Brundle says ‘feisty’ F1 driver is currently in the ‘form of his life’ after impressive Miami Grand Prix performance

The Miami Grand Prix sprung a surprise or two this year, but didn’t quite match the excitement delivered by the LEGO parade lap race.

McLaren dominated and won the race by over 35 seconds from their nearest rivals, extending their gap in both the drivers’ and constructors’ championships.

Further down the pit lane, Williams secured their second consecutive double points finish and appeared to have quicker pace than Ferrari.

Namely, Alex Albon, who finished fifth, was very impressive. He was just over 10 seconds behind finishing on the podium without any major interruptions during the race.

Albon has made a change since Carlos Sainz’s arrival by stepping up and leading his team’s efforts. He’s driving at a very high level.

However, off the track, fans believe Albon is the funniest F1 driver, with his wit putting smiles on the faces of many around the globe. He’s proving that he’s one of the best in the business in 2025.

Albon now sits eighth in the standings and has comfortably been the best of the rest in 2025. He has 16 more points than Ocon below him in ninth.

It’s this form which has attracted comment from Martin Brundle, a man who knows a thing or two about scoring points in Formula 1.

Speaking on a Sky Sports blog, he admitted that the Thai driver looks to be operating at a faster pace than he ever has.

“Fifth would fall to Alex Albon with another excellent and feisty race. This means that Williams were the fourth fastest team on the day and had looked much like that all weekend.

“But for a Safety Car technicality in the Sprint, Albon would have scored another handful of points there too, and he is in the form of his life.”

Could Alex Albon attract interest from rival F1 teams for 2026?

With the 2026 F1 regulations inching closer, Carlos Sainz wants to emulate Alain Prost at Williams, and so too does Albon.

However, if he continues to perform at this level, he could well begin to attract other parties. His current contract runs beyond this season.

In other words, if someone like Red Bull were to decide to pursue him, they would have to pay Williams for his services.

There are no guarantees with a new set of rules that the current running order will remain the same. There’s a chance that even McLaren end up at the back.

It makes any switch to a rival a gamble, and waiting to see how things play out in 2026 may be the wisest move first.
