Max Verstappen reveals the ‘conversations’ he’s having about racing in new series despite F1 dominance

Max Verstappen’s life in the fast lane is going pretty well having just picked up a fourth consecutive Formula 1 championship in 2024.

He’s the undisputed king at Red Bull and absolutely dominated teammate Sergio Perez in a car that was tricky to handle sometimes.

Verstappen is under contract to race in Formula 1 until at least 2028 which offers him the opportunity to win a further four crowns if he has the car to do it.

Juan Pablo Montoya says Red Bull won’t promote Yuki Tsunoda to a seat alongside the Dutchman which means that Liam Lawson is now the prime candidate to partner him in 2025.

The young Kiwi is going to have to be ready to learn a lot and face the relentless wrath of the 27-year-old if he wants to last a long time at the team. Jolyon Palmer thinks Verstappen bullied Lando Norris on his way to the title this year with his aggressive style of racing on track.

It’s part of what makes him so formidable though, and is something that both McLaren and Ferrari are going to need to find a way to overcome next season.

Max Verstappen in conversation with ‘loads of teams’ regarding post-F1 opportunities

Verstappen has mentioned his aspirations of racing outside Formula 1 and perhaps alongside his father for quite a long time now.

Fortunately, his Drivers’ Championship efforts over the last few seasons mean that virtually the whole world of motorsport is on notice about him.

If he became available the offers would start to come in from everywhere, and there’s little that team boss Christian Horner and Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko would be able to do to hold onto him if he was set on leaving.

Speaking to Viaplay after claiming his fourth title, he mentioned how he has already been in conversations regarding what comes after his current career.

“I have multiple goals after F1,” said Verstappen. “Endurance, my own team, a lot of things come with it. And, ultimately there has to be a programme for that and with who are you going to do that? So, those are also conversations I’m having.

“Loads of teams. Mercedes, Ferrari, Aston Martin, it doesn’t have to do with F1 at all. Red Bull too, they do a lot outside of F1.”

Which series could Max Verstappen join after Formula 1?

The beauty of Verstappen’s situation is that he has achieved so much at a young age that his best years may be ahead of him yet.

He’s a keen sim racer and when he conducts live streams for fans, he’s often driving a World Endurance Championship Hypercar or GT3 car.

There are a number of manufacturers in Formula 1 who also have operations in that series, including the likes of Mercedes, Aston Martin and Ferrari as he mentioned in his interview.

A move to North America to do IndyCar or NASCAR isn’t an option for the Dutchman as he doesn’t like that sort of racing.

Kimi Raikkonen once pivoted to the World Rally Championship in the middle of his career, but it would be surprising to see Verstappen pull off a similar move.
