Max Verstappen warned he faces the ‘most problems’ at Miami Grand Prix as Red Bull will have a ‘headache’ McLaren won’t

Max Verstappen is the only Formula 1 driver to stand on each Miami Grand Prix podium to date, but Timo Glock thinks Red Bull will face a ‘headache’ McLaren will not in 2025.

Formula 1 has visited Hard Rock Stadium every year since 2022 and seen Verstappen secure two Miami GP wins so far. The 27-year-old stood atop the rostrum in 2022 and 2023, before Lando Norris won his first F1 race at the Miami GP in 2024 at the Dutchman’s expense in P2.

Verstappen was set for a hat-trick of Miami GP wins a year ago before Kevin Magnussen and Logan Sargeant colliding caused a safety car period which gifted Norris the lead. Now, Glock expects McLaren will lead Red Bull on merit in 2025 and to be ‘one step ahead’ of everyone.

Max Verstappen faces the ‘most problems’ at the Miami GP as the track will give Red Bull a ‘headache’

Glock is not expecting much from Red Bull or Verstappen at the 2025 Miami GP as the track designed within the car parks of Hard Rock Stadium will give the team from Milton Keynes a ‘headache’. On the other hand, the German feels the narrow street circuit will suit McLaren.

Verstappen denied Oscar Piastri pole for the 2025 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix last time out on a narrow street track. But the Jeddah Corniche Circuit is the fastest street track and second-fastest circuit overall on the 2025 F1 calendar, whereas Miami is full of slow-speed corners.

Red Bull struggled enormously as Piastri dominated to win the Bahrain Grand Prix from pole position at the last track with slow corners like the Miami International Autodrome. The 24-year-old came home 34.395 seconds ahead of Verstappen, who took P6 after starting in P7.

Glock told Sky Germany: “Red Bull will have a headache again because it’s a tight track with slow corners like Bahrain. They will have the most problems of the top teams. McLaren will be one step ahead of everyone else again.”

Red Bull and Max Verstappen face further problems with the Miami GP an F1 Sprint event

Glock is not alone to fear for the four-time defending champion ahead of this week’s race in Florida as Giedo van der Garde thinks Verstappen faces a ‘disadvantage’ at the Miami GP as Red Bull ‘always’ struggle at F1 Sprint events. Miami is the second of 2025’s six Sprint races.

Red Bull have not always excelled at F1 Sprint events due to the race weekends offering just one practice session before Sprint Qualifying. The team from Milton Keynes have tended to struggle to find a competitive set-up early or found themselves caught up in the Grand Prix.

Verstappen will thus be hoping to prove Glock and Van der Garde wrong by challenging the McLaren pair of Piastri and Norris. He heads to Florida 12 points from Piastri in the 2025 F1 drivers’ championship standings and just two behind Norris after he lost the lead in Jeddah.
