Flight tracking data shows that Max Verstappen’s private jet has departed from Nice, France, likely heading to Miami for this weekend’s Grand Prix. This comes amid the potential arrival of his first child with his partner Kelly Piquet.
Only moments ago, Red Bull confirmed that the reigning champion would be missing the media day ahead of the race weekend.
“Max [Verstappen] will not be attending media day in Miami as he is expecting a baby,” a statement from the team read. “All is well and he will attend track tomorrow for the race weekend. We will not be offering any further comment at this time in respect towards the privacy of Max and his family.”
With the driver now on his way to Florida, this could mean the four-time champion and his partner have had their baby. It must be noted that there has been no official announcement on the birth of their child. However, these events strongly suggest this.
While this is their first child together, Piquet already has a daughter named Penelope from her previous relationship with former Formula 1 driver Daniil Kvyat. Verstappen has become a strong father figure for her, referring to himself as a “bonus dad,” while Piquet and Kvyat co-parent.
The couple are yet to confirm the gender of their baby, but there have been hints that they’re expecting a girl. A recent baby shower, taking place on the racing driver’s new yacht, was decorated in the colour pink, suggesting that the couple are welcoming another daughter into their family.

Previously, Verstappen has confirmed that he won’t be changing his approach to racing when he becomes a dad.
“Honestly I have done it already, so it is not like it is completely new for me,” he admitted. “Now it is my DNA, let’s say it like that, but I think it is absolutely fine and I know the baby will be in good hands anyway. So for me, you focus on your racing and then go back to your family.”
He further confirmed that he won’t be taking time out, either.
“No, I never considered taking a year out. It is not on my mind.”
He further confirmed that the baby might not follow in his footsteps as a racing driver.
“Well, if he or she wants to do it and I see that there is talent I would support it, of course, naturally. But I really hope not! No pressure, just live your life.”
Motorsport understands that it was always planned for Verstappen to attend the Miami Grand Prix, and with his jet now on the move, it’s likely we’ll hear more very soon.
