Miami Grand Prix 2025: Predictions and how to watch as Lando Norris looks to repeat maiden F1 victory

The backdrop of Miami plays host to the sixth round of the 2025 Formula 1 world championship, so F1 Oversteer’s expert writers have given their predictions on who they think will be polesitter, winner, and on the podium.

Lando Norris is looking to repeat his feat of winning the Miami Grand Prix like he did in 2024, having only won one race so far in his 2025 campaign.

After Oscar Piastri took the lead of the Drivers’ Championship in Saudi Arabia, the Briton is now 10 points behind his teammate and only two points ahead of Max Verstappen.

It is a pivotal moment early in the campaign for Norris, who will likely want to close the gap heading into the European rounds of the season. With it being a Sprint weekend, there is ample opportunity to come away with a decent points haul on both Saturday and Sunday.

Several teams have come to Miami with special liveries, although F1 fans are not too keen on Ferrari, who has produced another special with their main sponsor partner.

F1 experts predict who will get pole position in Miami Grand Prix

Rory Mitchell: Lando Norris – I would have gone for Max Verstappen given his knack for qualifying on pole, but with it being a Sprint weekend it changes things a bit. Red Bull struggled to turn things around in China with one practice session, and I can see a similar problem in Miami. Norris has never secured pole around the street track, but he will have surely used the break between now and Saudi Arabia to work on his weaknesses.

Who will win the 2025 Miami Grand Prix?

Kyle Archer: Oscar Piastri – Lando Norris needs to hit back at the Miami Grand Prix after losing the lead of the 2025 Formula 1 drivers’ championship to Oscar Piastri last time out in Saudi Arabia. But, while Norris has been in McLaren’s simulator preparing for Miami, Piastri will expect to win.

Piastri is far more comfortable with the MCL39 than Norris has been since his victory at the season-opener in Australia. So, the Melbourne native will hope to place his teammate under pressure and see if Norris cracks like he did when the Briton crashed in qualifying in Jeddah.

Norris crashed without completing a lap in Q3 in Saudi Arabia, trying to match the pace that Piastri could take through Turn 4. He will not want to be playing catch up again in Miami this week, with it being an F1 Sprint event, opening a door for Piastri to hammer home his title hopes.

Ben Evans: Oscar Piastri, Lando Norris, Max Verstappen – It feels like this trio are going to spend a lot of time on the podium together this season given how important qualifying is in deciding the result of each race.

McLaren should benefit from the high temperatures in Miami and their significant tyre wear advantage as a result, while Verstappen has proven time and again he can pull off sensational qualifying laps under pressure.

Overtaking isn’t easy in Miami, and even if Mercedes or Ferrari take a step forward, Verstappen is canny enough to keep their drivers behind him, while it should be a straight shootout between Piastri and Norris for victory.

Who will be the biggest surprise on the F1 grid in the Miami Grand Prix?

Tyler Rowlinson: Ferrari – Ferrari have been arguably 2025’s biggest disappointment so far, with Lewis Hamilton clearly struggling to find performance and adapt to the Maranello outfit. However, this season’s first Sprint weekend in China was the only time the SF-25 has looked like a race-winning car.

Hamilton silenced his critics in Shanghai by taking a commanding win in the Sprint on Saturday. While he and Charles Leclerc were disqualified from the race on Sunday, Ferrari found the right performance window on a weekend where practice is minimal.

Their issues with the car seemed to solve themselves during the Sprint in China, and given the fast-flowing nature of the Miami circuit, the Maranello outfit could find another window to produce a strong showing – even if it is for a brief period.

Who will be the biggest disappointment in the Miami Grand Prix?

Shay Rogers: Aston Martin – At some stage, something has to give at Aston Martin. There was so much excitement for Dan Fallows’ arrival two years ago, but their 2023 successes were borne off the back of Sebastian Vettel’s hard work and feedback from the year before.

Fernando Alonso hasn’t managed to steer them in a good direction, and clearly can’t seem to develop a Formula 1 car very well. He didn’t do it well as Ferrari either, hence his title charges dropped off. Miami is a track which tests almost every attribute of a car, and it has many traction zones.

That has been one of Aston’s biggest issues this season, and in the somewhat intense heat, it could amplify their problem. Getting out of Q1 for Alonso or Lance Stroll should be considered a success.
