Michael Schumacher’s 2001 Ferrari F2001 has sold at auction for a staggering €15,980,000 during the Monaco Grand Prix weekend, with a donation of the proceeds going to the Keep Fighting Foundation, which continues the seven-time champion’s charitable work following his skiing accident.
The chassis no. 211 is considered one of the most sought-after Grand Prix Ferraris ever made, especially as the German racing legend secured his fourth drivers’ championship title with it.
Speaking ahead of the auction, Augustin Sabatié-Garat, Director of Sales at RM Sotheby’s, explained via F1.com:
“Victory on the streets of Monte-Carlo alone would make this a hugely significant Ferrari, but to do so in the same season that it crossed the line to capture both the Drivers’ and [Teams]’ World Championships – the first back-to-back championship double in Ferrari history – takes it to a completely different level.
“We are very excited to take chassis 211 back to the site of its historic win, and to be able to auction it during the Monaco Grand Prix weekend is an immense privilege.”
As the auction took place during the Monaco Grand Prix weekend, visitors to the F1 Paddock Club had the privilege of seeing the crown jewel on display.
What makes the Ferrari F2001 so special?
Schumacher’s Ferrari F2001 is considered a crown jewel for many reasons. Not only did it secure the coveted win at the 2001 Monaco Grand Prix, but it also took both Schumacher and Ferrari to the drivers’ and constructors’ championship victories.

Interestingly, chassis no. 211 is the only Ferrari in which the F1 icon secured both the Monaco Grand Prix and drivers’ championship titles.
With Schumacher’s win at the Hungarian Grand Prix, the constructors’ title was claimed, making this the Maranello outfit’s first back-to-back double titles. It was also the last Ferrari to win around the streets of Monte Carlo in the same year as clinching the title.
The F2001 is also from a popular era of the sport, with this specific car boasting a 3.0-litre V10 producing 825 horsepower. The car, by the hands of Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello, collected 10 wins, 13 pole positions, three fastest laps, and 197 points.
