Mick Schumacher continues to dream about a Formula 1 return, and the German may get the chance when General Motors arrives via its Cadillac brand in the 2026 season.
The 26-year-old is one of a number of drivers in the mix to join Cadillac ahead of GM putting an 11th crew on the F1 grid. Both seats in the Cadillac F1 team are also currently vacant, but the race to join the American outfit has hotted up after they attended the Miami Grand Prix.
Cadillac used the Miami GP to hold talks with potential F1 drivers, along with holding a team launch event. Schumacher was one of the drivers Cadillac met in Miami, as well as their No1 target Sergio Perez. Cadillac also retain an interest in hiring Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu.

Mick Schumacher’s adviser could give him an advantage worth its ‘weight in gold’ to join Cadillac
It is even said that Cadillac have already reached an agreement to sign Perez for their debut line-up in the 2026 F1 season. But Schumacher may have a key advantage over rival drivers like Bottas and Zhou in the fight to be the Mexican’s teammate, and return to F1 via Cadillac.
According to Motorsport-Total, Schumacher’s adviser Dirk Muller has ‘excellent connections’ in the USA from his time racing in the American sports car scene. His contacts may prove to be ‘worth their weight in gold’ in now trying to land his compatriot one of the Cadillac seats.

Schumacher formally made him an adviser earlier this year, but the Germans have a lengthy bond as Muller and Michael Schumacher became friends in the early 2000s. Now, Muller is trying to help take Mick back to F1 after impressing in the World Endurance Championship.
“Mick definitely has what it takes to return to Formula 1,” Muller has told Motorsport-Total. “He has enormous talent and is a really fast driver… Mick absorbs everything like a sponge. He also has the elbow grease to hold his own in the shark tank of Formula 1.”
Mick Schumacher impressed Cadillac director Mario Andretti during their talks in Miami
Schumacher has a number of prominent advocates as he strives to beat Bottas et al to likely be Perez’s teammate at Cadillac next term. Sebastian Vettel is keeping his ‘fingers crossed’ Cadillac sign Schumacher to drive for their F1 team, as well, as he has impressed in the WEC.
The 26-year-old spent two years in Formula 1 with Haas during the 2021 and 2022 seasons. Yet Haas knew Schumacher faced a painful year in 2021 as they did not develop their car at all in 2020, while 2021 yielded his 12 F1 career points with P8 and P6 in Britain and Austria.

Now, he is excelling in the endurance world and took Alpine’s first podium of the 2025 WEC season with P3 at the 6 Hours of Imola with Jules Gounon and Frederic Makowiecki. But F1 is where Schumacher wants to race and he has made a positive impression on Cadillac, too.
Schumacher impressed Cadillac director Mario Andretti in Miami with his willingness to hold talks about a 2026 F1 seat without having an adviser present. But the German might have to hope that Cadillac decide against signing an American driver if Perez does join, as expected.
