McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri came to blows for the first time this season and it resulted in a dramatic ending to the Canadian Grand Prix for the British star.
Lando Norris had work to do after starting the Canadian Grand Prix four positions behind Oscar Piastri on Sunday.
He started on the alternative strategy which paid off in the closing stages of the race as he approached the back of his teammate’s McLaren.
Unfortunately for the 25-year-old, Norris misjudged a move on Piastri going past the start/finish line and ended up in the barrier, ending his chances of closing the gap in the drivers’ championship.

Damon Hill called Norris’ move disappointing, while eventual race winner George Russell thought Piastri was blameless in the incident.
It means the gap between the two drivers has grown to 22 points in the championship and McLaren lost ground in the constructors’ standings to Mercedes.
Nico Rosberg and Danica Patrick were carefully studying the race and determined what McLaren team principal Andrea Stella now needs to say to Norris.
For the good of the championship, fans will hope that this doesn’t bring their on-track battles to an end.

Nico Rosberg details the ‘talk’ Andrea Stella must have with Lando Norris after Canadian Grand Prix crash
Rosberg was speaking to Patrick on Sky Sports F1 (15/6 9:15 pm) and explained: “First of all, we’re thankful to McLaren for letting them race because it brings us a lot of excitement.
“It was an amazing battle to watch, the two of them going at it and Lando did an amazing first lunge into the hairpin, that was beautiful.
“Afterwards, it was just very strange, the mistake that Lando made, super strange.
“There’s just one more mistake of the many and it’s a big mistake because he really committed, he didn’t back off or anything, he just stays full on the throttle which is also a bit strange.

“This is not too difficult to sort out because Piastri, for one, is completely aside, he’s not done anything and Lando, Andrea just needs to have a talk with him and just understand.
“You don’t even need to blame because it’s just a misjudgement but you need to go through it and understand.”

Danica Patrick spotted Lando Norris’ ‘desperation’ during Oscar Piastri fight
Norris immediately took responsibility for the collision on the team radio and was relieved that he didn’t end his teammate’s race as well.
He was handed a five-second penalty as a result of the crash and while Stella will want to avoid another crash between his two drivers, Rosberg is right that their conversation will be far easier because Norris admitted his mistake.
Patrick was speaking about Norris’ decision-making and explained: “I just wonder if there’s a little bit of desperation in there too.

“The dynamic that’s been unfolding throughout the season, he could have gone right, he could have lifted, there’s so many other options.
“He came off the chicane and he had the momentum because he had a better line off the first part of the chicane.
“It was like in his head there was no way he was going to lift off and give up that momentum no matter what and he ran out of room.”
