Lando Norris converted his pole into a win at the Monaco Grand Prix and closed the gap to three points to Oscar Piastri in the Drivers’ Championship.
The top four all finished where they qualified despite an attempt from F1 teams to improve the spectacle by mandating two pit stops, with Piastri ahead of Max Verstappen despite the Red Bull driver pitting on the final lap.
Red Bull kept Verstappen out in an attempt to back up the pack, eventually only losing time to the top three behind them. Earlier in the race, Verstappen came close to overtaking Piastri on track when double yellows were deployed.
Discussing the moment in the podium cool-down room after the race on Sky Sports F1, Piastri was left angry by how Verstappen handled the situation.

Oscar Piastri fumes over Max Verstappen moment in Monaco Grand Prix
Early in the race, Pierre Gasly collided with Yuki Tsunoda after his brakes failed exiting the tunnel. The collision left debris strewn across the track at the Neuvelle Chicane, with double-waved yellows being thrown.
Verstappen used the double yellows to close in on Piastri, with him getting a chance to pull alongside on one occasion.
Reflecting on the moment in the cool down room, Piastri told Norris: “Max, he drove up on me twice when we had double yellows!”
It was the best chance Verstappen had of overtaking Piastri in the entire race, after his decision to extend his final stint ultimately did not yield any gain of position.
Oscar Piastri thought Lando Norris crashed at first corner
Despite pressure from Leclerc in the closing stages of the race, there was one hair-raising moment for Norris.
On the run down into Turn 1, Norris locked up both tyres after getting a slightly slower getaway than Leclerc. The McLaren driver was keen to maintain his lead, but the moment almost saw Norris hit the barriers.

When it was replayed in the cool-down room, Piastri commented: “Mate, I thought you were in the wall hard at Turn 1! I saw smoke everywhere and thought, ‘Oh my god! No!!’”
Piastri extends his championship lead over Verstappen in third, with the Red Bull driver now over 20 points behind the Australian in the title battle.
