The Miami Grand Prix weekend provided plenty of excitement and a maximum points haul for championship leaders McLaren.
McLaren became the first team in Formula 1 history to complete one-two finishes in both the Sprint Race and Grand Prix over the same weekend, with Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri taking a victory apiece.
Norris benefitted from a well-timed safety car in the Sprint Race to steal the win off his teammate, but Piastri came out on top in the race that mattered.
Max Verstappen tried to emulate Michael Schumacher to keep the Australian behind him but had to relent eventually.
The Dutchman did a much better job keeping Norris at bay, and that allowed Piastri to create a gap at the front of the race that earned him his third consecutive victory.

Piastri now sits 16 points clear at the top of the drivers’ championship after six race weekends, and potentially even more importantly, Verstappen is more than a victory behind him now.
It’s such a long season that Piastri will be taking nothing for granted, but Jenson Button and Danica Patrick have been left mesmerised by the McLaren star.

Jenson Button compares Oscar Piastri to Lewis Hamilton after Miami Grand Prix win
Button and Patrick were discussing Piastri’s talents on Sky Sports F1 (5/5 0:07 am) after the first American race of the season.
It was put to Button that Piastri has found an ‘extra gear’ this season and the F1 world champion explained, “As I said to him earlier when I interviewed him post-race, it’s the race pace that is just out of this world now with him.
“He’s improved so much in the last year, and he gets into the lead of a race and he’s so good at controlling the race.
“You know, Lewis Hamilton was the king of controlling races from the front, has been for the last decade, and this guy comes along and he’s so calm and collected and that’s the thing for him, nothing really fazes him.

“And that’s what really helps you as a racing driver with Max, he takes the emotional element out of it, which isn’t so good for us, we all love the emotion, but that’s what’s going to help him fight for a world championship.”
Patrick, “However, no one knows you better than your teammate, they know your weaknesses, they know your strengths and you’re with them all the time.
“So, this is a very interesting and exciting duo that we’re going to see for the rest of the season.”

Oscar Piastri must now establish a Lewis Hamilton level of dominance over his teammate
In terms of his demeanour, Piastri is a lot closer to Verstappen when it comes to his levels of concentration.
It’s no wonder fans have compared Piastri to Kimi Raikkonen in the past, although it’s hard to imagine the Finn dancing in front of the world after a race win.
What made Hamilton so good during his time at McLaren and Mercedes was his ability to defeat his teammate.

Button, Nico Rosberg and George Russell all had seasons where they outscored Hamilton, but on the whole, the seven-time world champion was almost impossible to beat when he got the sense he had a title-winning car.
Alonso couldn’t cope with Hamilton back in 2007 during his rookie season, returning to Renault after just one year as a result.
Piastri now needs to have that same mentality against Norris, and even though McLaren want to concentrate on winning the constructors’ championship, it’s time for the Australian to be more selfish if he wants to win his maiden title.
