Red Bull told Sergio Perez ‘deserves’ one thing Daniel Ricciardo didn’t get when he lost his seat

Sergio Perez is under increasing pressure at Red Bull as he is struggling to extract the maximum from his car this season.

The Mexican driver has consistently lagged behind his teammate Max Verstappen, who clinched his fourth world championship at the Las Vegas Grand Prix last time out.

Perez has made a series of critical errors in qualifying such as at the British Grand Prix and in Hungary which stopped him from making Q3.

This has made a lot of his races much more difficult, as the Red Bull driver has spent the distance battling through the midfield.

Perez may be on the verge of losing his seat but the Austrian team have been told the Mexican doesn’t deserve one thing that happened to Daniel Ricciardo.

Ricciardo suffered a difficult stint at RB alongside Yuki Tsunoda, which came to an agonising end at the Singapore Grand Prix.

The Australian faced uncertainty heading into his final Grand Prix for the team as there was no announcement ahead of the race weekend.

It was a tricky end to his Formula 1 career after winning eight races and if Perez were to suffer the same fate, a send-off would be more appropriate.

Alex Jacques explained on the Formula 1 Weekend Warm-Up that Perez has struggled but deserves a send-off if he leaves Red Bull.

He said: “It’s not worked for him. And 19 races now, sprint and Grand Prix added together that he’s failed to make the top five. That cannot be the case if you’re a Red Bull driver, because it will leave them third again. And they know what Red Bull and McLaren can do.

“And Mercedes aren’t going to rest on their laurels. So it’s uncomfortable. I think if they are going to let Checo go, I’d like them to avoid what they did with Daniel Riccardo team.

“Because if you’re a six-time Grand Prix winner, and it might be the end of your Formula 1 career, you deserve a send-off. You don’t deserve a press release in the middle of the off-season.”

Sergio Perez is 251 points behind his Red Bull teammate Max Verstappen

Perez has been a significant part of Red Bull’s struggles to retain their Constructors’ Championship this season.

The Mexican driver hasn’t scored a podium since the Chinese Grand Prix in April and he is 251 points behind Verstappen in the standings

Perez sits eighth in the standings and 56 points behind Lewis Hamilton despite the seven-time world champion enduring an inferior car.
