Cadillac took advantage of General Motors formally launching the Formula 1 team at the Miami Grand Prix to hold talks with drivers, including one Sebastian Vettel loves.
F1 will welcome Cadillac to the grid next season after Formula 1 and the FIA awarded GM an entry as the 11th team. But debate still lingers about the drivers Cadillac will sign to race for the American outfit, who have already hired Graeme Lowdon to serve as the team principal.
Lowdon was also one of the large contingent of Cadillac and General Motors personnel who attended last weekend’s Miami GP. The first round of the 2025 F1 season in America offered Cadillac the chance to hold the team’s first launch event and meet potential drivers for talks.
F1 Oversteer understands that Sergio Perez is Cadillac’s No1 target, as the Mexican looks for his route back onto the grid after being released by Red Bull in December. Cadillac also have Mick Schumacher and Mercedes F1 reserve driver Frederik Vesti on their shortlist of targets.

Sebastian Vettel is keeping his ‘fingers crossed’ Cadillac sign Mick Schumacher for their 2026 F1 team
It is also thought that Cadillac have already reached an agreement with Perez, with his years of experience in the pinnacle of motorsport plus substantial sponsorship very appealing to a new team. The second seat is more open, with Zhou Guanyu well-positioned to join Cadillac.

But Vettel remains hopeful that Cadillac will sign Schumacher as the 26-year-old deserves to get another shot in F1. The German only got two years on the grid before Haas released the son of Michael Schumacher after the 2022 term, which produced all 12 of his career points.
“I wish him well,” Vettel told sport.de. “We’re in contact, of course, and I also saw how his time in Formula 1 ended. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that he gets another chance because I believe he can absolutely keep up with the others.
“[Schumacher is now at] a completely different stage. He is much more mature, and I think he is doing a very good job at Alpine in the World Endurance Championship. It would be nice if he gets a second chance at Cadillac.”
Cadillac held talks with Mick Schumacher at the 2025 F1 Miami Grand Prix, but face rival interest

Vettel could yet get his wish as sport.de adds that Cadillac held talks with Schumacher at the 2025 F1 Miami GP about joining their team next season. The GM entry retains an interest in signing Vettel’s old mentee as Cadillac explore every possible option in the F1 driver market.

Cadillac team principal Lowdon has also previously declared that Schumacher is ‘definitely’ one of the possible drivers whom the GM entry might sign. But Cadillac face competition to sign Schumacher, as Vettel is not the only person impressed with his WEC results for Alpine.
Alpine are also keen to prevent losing Schumacher after the 2025 WEC season after he took the brand’s first podium of the term last time out at the 6 Hours of Imola with Jules Gounon and Frederic Makowiecki. The #36 Alpine crew sealed P3 to get Alpine’s first points of 2025.
