Sky Sports pundit Damon Hill shares reaction to major announcement about Lewis Hamilton’s F1 future

Sky Sports pundit Damon Hill has now reacted to the news that Lewis Hamilton could be moving to Ferrari for the 2025 season.

News broke this morning that the seven-time world champion might be leaving Mercedes at the end of the season.

Taking to Instagram, Damon Hill shared his initial reaction to the proposed switch.

The Formula 1 driver market was always going to be fascinating heading into 2024.

More than half the field were out of contract and both drivers and teams would have been looking for the best options available to them.

Ferrari acted fast to tie down Charles Leclerc to a new deal, before McLaren made the pre-emptive move to extend Lando Norris’s contract despite it not expiring until the end of 2025.

However, the news that Lewis Hamilton could be set to join Ferrari next season has surprised not only Damon Hill but the entire Formula 1 world.

The 39-year-old had signed a deal until the end of 2025 alongside teammate George Russell and Mercedes weren’t expected to be involved in the chaos that’s likely to be intertwined with the action on track.

However, Lewis Hamilton seemingly deciding to switch to F1’s most iconic team in the twilight of his career is going to send shockwaves down the paddock.

All of a sudden there’s a spot open at one of the best teams on the grid, and a very fast Spaniard who looks set to miss out.

Sky Sports pundit Hill reacts to Hamilton to Ferrari news

Posting on Instagram, Hill simply stated: “You red it right!” referring to the colour car Hamilton could be in next year.

It’s a worrying announcement for Mercedes on the eve of their new car being unveiled.

Team principal Toto Wolff had made positive noises about their chances this year after struggling in the previous two seasons.

Hamilton hasn’t won a race since 2021 and will be desperate to end that drought sooner rather than later.

Ferrari were just as far away from Red Bull in 2023 as Mercedes though and on paper it does seem like a gamble, especially with the major regulation chances coming in 2026.

However, the last time Hamilton made such a bold move, it led to him winning six world championships.

It would be wrong to doubt his intuition once again.
