South Korean actor Lee Jung-jae, known for his lead role as Seong Gi-hun in Netflix’s Squid Game as well as numerous other productions, is attending the 2025 Monaco Grand Prix. Following qualifying, where McLaren’s Lando Norris beat Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc to pole, the star presented him with the Pirelli Pole Position Award.
Norris delivered what can only be described as a masterclass on the Monaco circuit today. Not only did he finish at the top of the timesheets above hometown hero Leclerc and championship leader Oscar Piastri, who finished third, but he also set a new lap record. With a time of 1:09.954, he became the first driver to deliver a lap in under 70 seconds at the Principality.
“I’m happy. It doesn’t mean I have to show emotion. This is not a new approach!” he told Sky Sports F1.
“I am very happy, especially to do it here in Monaco and do it ahead of Charles is that little bit sweeter. This weekend has been about making little bits of progress every session, every lap.
“Charles has been on top in every session, so it’s hard to just go ‘yeah we have to do it now’. But we have been confident we have been there or thereabouts. We knew we had a bit more in qualifying and I knew if I had a good lap and put things together, I could be on pole.”
Norris met with the actor after his impressive performance to receive the well-earned award.
Lee Jung-jae rose to global fame after his breakout role in Squid Game. For this performance, the 52-year-old earned an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, making him the first Asian male actor and the first performer from a non-English language production to achieve this feat.
He now enjoys roles in the likes of Star Wars: The Acolyte, while continuing to grow his chain of Italian restaurants and real estate development company.
