Ted Kravitz provides his theory on why Max Verstappen didn’t speak to fans at the F1 75 launch event

The F1 75 event was generally considered a success in building up the hype around the upcoming Formula 1 season.

However, one of the most telling moments of the event was the reception of Red Bull team principal Christian Horner when he took to the stage.

Horner spoke for several minutes to the crowd but boos could be heard from the crowd when he greeted them.

The crowd were generally very positive about everything else during the ceremony, although the FIA also received a poor reaction when they were mentioned during the event.

There was also a smattering of boos for Max Verstappen when he was first mentioned – although not at the same level as Horner – and Red Bull were the only team whose drivers weren’t interviewed on stage.

The FIA weren’t happy with Red Bull’s reception during the F1 75 event, believing that everyone should have been positively welcomed.

All of the teams took time out of their pre-season preparations to attend the event, with Ferrari organising their launch event just a few hours after the ceremony finished.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see the event repeated next year although Jos Verstappen has suggested that Max won’t attend if it’s held in London again due to the reception he received.

Ted Kravitz – speaking on The F1 Show – has explained why he believes Verstappen and new teammate Liam Lawson didn’t talk to the crowd that night.

Ted Kravitz shares his theory on why Max Verstappen didn’t speak at the F1 75 event

Kravitz was speaking to Bernie Collins and she remarked: “I don’t know, maybe we’re going to get into it, but I was really disappointed not to hear from the Red Bull drivers.

“The only drivers we didn’t hear from. It’s like all the drivers, I know, said largely the same thing.

“Yeah, the car looks good, but not to have any voice in that room from, you know, a new driver, the world champion. Then why do we not hear from them?”

Kravitz replied: “Well, I’ll tell you why we didn’t hear from them because they had already with my stopwatch, my expensive chronograph, they had they were already at six minutes, 59 seconds.”

Collins then asked: “So, do you think they just ran out of time? Or do you think it was deliberate to not hear from them?”

Kravitz continued: “Oh you’re saying that they could have made your VT shorter? Well, it was such a good VT.

“Not to hear from the world champion was unfortunate and Max missed an opportunity in coming out and Red Bull missed an opportunity in coming out if there were any, I didn’t actually hear many boos for Max.

“But Max excels in using adversity to motivate himself. Surely he would have loved to come out and said, ‘All right, London. Hello, England. You’re not going to be booing when I beat Lando and Lewis this year. Are you?’ They would have loved we would have loved that.”

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff reacts to Red Bull’s F1 75 reception

It’s well known that Toto Wolff and Horner haven’t always seen eye to eye over the years in the F1 paddock.

The 2021 season saw tempers flare between the two teams with Verstappen coming out on top against Lewis Hamilton.

Wolff has reacted to the booing of Verstappen at the F1 75 event where his Mercedes team received a much more positive reception.

British driver George Russell was one of the most popular drivers and rookie Andrea Kimi Antonelli was equally lauded.

As Kravitz explained, Verstappen might have enjoyed providing a retort to the British crowd after his feisty battles with Hamilton, feud with Russell and tussle against Lando Norris last year.
